The semiconductor giant Qualcomm is known for its great 5G modems and its wide connectivity business across the globe. Obviously, Qualcomm has pioneered the 5G innovation to a lot of devices and indeed is leading to an always-connected ecosystem in the near future.

In an interview with ET Telecom, Rajen Vagadia, VP and President, Qualcomm India and SAARC has expressed his views on 5G development in India.

“The case for the immediate rollout of 5G networks in India is a compelling one. It is no longer a choice, but a pre-requisite for the country’s growth and development,” Vagadia told .

Being the world’s second largest telecom market, India has a lot of potential and as per Vagadia, the Indian regulators will have a big role so that 5G in India is deployed to its “full potential”.

“The government and policy makers can trigger growth of the Indian telecom market by releasing spectrum, including 5G, in adequate quantity and at affordable prices,” he said in an email interview.

“We are driving conversations at all levels of the ecosystem to catalyse the commercial reality of 5G in the country — from telco, education, healthcare, automotive, medicine to manufacturing,” Vagadia said.

Qualcomm chips have been loved by users in India and the company will be trying more to infuse as many people possible by developing 5G SoCs for everyone. Having partnered with Jio in terms of investment, as well as testing out Jio’s homegrown 5G network, which has hit high speeds of 1 Gbps, in trials already.

“That says it all, in terms of the opportunities that India has, from leveraging 5G,” Vagadia said. Hopefully, players like Qualcomm, Jio and others will be leveraging a strong 5G network across India as it could become the driving force in developing the next big economy in the world.
