Indian badminton star PV Sindhu has strengthened her coaching setup by bringing on board South Korea’s Lee Hyun Il as a consulting coach. This decision comes shortly after Anup Sridhar was named her interim coach. Together, they will guide Sindhu as she prepares for her return to competitive action in October, marking her first tournament since the Paris Olympics.

New Coaching Duo Set to Guide PV Sindhu

PV Sindhu has opted for a two-coach strategy, with Lee Hyun Il joining Sridhar to form a team that will work with her until December 2024. The duo aims to refine her skills and strategies, especially as Sindhu gears up for her comeback at the Arctic Open in Finland next month.

The inclusion of Lee, a former world number one player, is expected to inject new energy and insights into Sindhu’s training regimen. Having played alongside Sindhu in the Premier Badminton League (PBL), Lee is already familiar with her playing style and potential. “I’m thrilled to have Anup Sridhar and Lee Hyun Il joining my team in this crucial period,” Sindhu expressed in a statement. She further noted, “Anup’s understanding of Indian badminton and his strategic approach has always impressed me, and I look forward to working closely with him.”

Lee Hyun Il brings a wealth of experience to the coaching team. With two Asian Games team gold medals and a bronze medal from the World Championships, he has proven his capabilities on the international stage. His successful career as a player gives him a unique perspective that can greatly benefit Sindhu as she aims to elevate her game.

“Working with PV Sindhu was an easy decision. Our previous partnership in the PBL highlighted her fierce determination and exceptional talent,” Lee commented, expressing enthusiasm about this new role. “I am excited to contribute to her growth and success in the upcoming tournaments.”

Sindhu Aiming for a Title

After a much-deserved break, Sindhu is eager to reset and aim for her first title since winning the Singapore Open in 2022. Currently ranked 14th in the world, she has faced challenges in recent tournaments and is not in contention for the BWF World Tour Final. This new coaching partnership aims to turn the tide in her favor.

Sindhu’s competitive spirit and dedication to the sport are clear. The addition of Lee and Sridhar is a strategic move aimed at reigniting her success on the badminton court. With their combined expertise, they will focus on fine-tuning her skills and preparing her for the upcoming European circuit.

The decision regarding Sindhu’s permanent coaching staff is expected to be finalized by the end of the year. For now, the focus remains on her immediate goals as she prepares for the Arctic Open and beyond. With Lee Hyun Il and Anup Sridhar at her side, Sindhu is set to tackle the challenges ahead with renewed determination.

As she steps back onto the court, all eyes will be on how this new coaching dynamic influences her performance. Sindhu’s fans and supporters are hopeful that this collaboration will bring her the success she has been striving for since her last title victory.
