Along with Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina also took his decision of retirement on 15th August 2020. Though he was not the captain of the Indian team, nor the greatest batsman of all time, he was the best in his own position. A tremendous fielder as well as a middle-order batsman with sheer perfection. Who can forget those beautiful inside out shots over the infield and those crucial wickets in the middle overs as a partnership breaker?
The PM’s letter reads: “Generations will remember you not only as a fine batsman but also as a very useful bowler who the captain could turn to when the situation demanded.”
So after his retirement, our beloved PM sent a token of appreciation to him. In that letter, Modi addressed him as an outstanding and lauded him for those brilliant catches in the field. He also said that we have witnessed some of the spectacular catches which had Raina’s distinctive imprint.
“Your fielding was exemplary and inspiring. Some of the best catches in recent international cricket have your distinctive imprint. Your enthusiasm on the field was infectious, and we could all witness that you would be among the first and most animated players to celebrate the fall of the opposing team’s wicket.”
PM Modi also specified that this energetic player is too young to retire. Raina also thanked PM Modi for this appreciation.
There is “no better appreciation” than being loved by the people : Suresh Raina.
“When we play, we give our blood & sweat for the nation. No better appreciation than being loved by people of this country & country’s PM. Thank you, PM for your words of appreciation & best wishes. I accept them with gratitude: Suresh Raina (file pic) responds to PM’s letter to him.”
But fortunately, we will witness those two great players (MSD and Raina) in action in the upcoming season of IPL for CSK. It will be an absolute treat to watch them on the field once again.
