PM Modi Gaming Statement: Key Takeaways from Pariksha Pe Charcha

Event Overview & Participation

Gaming Recognized as a Career Skill

Responding to an aspiring game developer, PM Modi emphasized that gaming has evolved beyond “timepass” into a skill-driven profession with global potential. He acknowledged the pressure students face from parents when choosing unconventional careers and urged them to pursue gaming seriously as a legitimate field requiring alertness, strategic thinking, and mental agility.

The Prime Minister specifically encouraged students to create games inspired by India’s rich cultural heritage, mythology, and storytelling traditions like Panchatantra. His advice focused on building strong digital presence, creating original projects, and using India’s affordable technology ecosystem to showcase talent globally.

Responsible Gaming: Clear Boundaries Set

While acknowledging gaming’s merits, PM Modi drew a firm line against online betting and gambling. He warned students not to waste time simply because mobile data is cheap in India, stating: “Don’t waste your time just because mobile data is cheap in India, focus on gaming as a skill and build your expertise in it.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government has enacted laws against online gambling, clarifying that skill-based gaming differs fundamentally from money-betting games. His remarks came amid concerns about online gambling’s harmful effects, including a recent Ghaziabad triple suicide incident linked to betting platforms.

Balancing Skills and Education

PM Modi stressed the importance of balancing life skills and professional skills alongside academic pursuits. He explained that while books provide knowledge, practical experience builds professional competence. Using legal practice as an example, he noted that knowing constitutional provisions is insufficient without hands-on training under experienced practitioners.

The Prime Minister advised students to trust their own study patterns while remaining open to advice, emphasizing that half-hearted education doesn’t lead to success. He encouraged students to dream big but work quietly toward goals, suggesting reading biographies for inspiration from ordinary people who achieved extraordinary success.

India’s Gaming Industry Moment

PM Modi’s endorsement arrives at a crucial time for India’s rapidly expanding gaming ecosystem. His message positions gaming as a serious career pathway aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), recognizing that today’s students in their early 40s will drive the country’s progress when India celebrates 100 years of independence.

The Prime Minister’s remarks signal growing institutional acceptance of gaming and esports in India, moving the conversation from entertainment to professional opportunity while maintaining ethical guardrails.
