PC gamers who’ve been patiently waiting for Ghost of Yotei or Marvel’s Wolverine on Steam just got some crushing news. According to a Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier, Sony PlayStation will no longer release its major first-party single-player titles on PC — a dramatic reversal of the multi-platform strategy it has pursued since 2019. Ghost of Yotei, Saros, and Wolverine are now PS5 exclusives, full stop.
PlayStation, according to Wikipedia, has historically built its identity around must-have console exclusives — and this pivot signals Sony’s belief that console exclusivity remains its most powerful competitive weapon in 2026.

Why Sony Pulled the Plug — The Brutal Numbers
The math didn’t work out. Early PC ports like Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War showed genuine momentum and proved PlayStation games had an audience on Steam. But the momentum faded fast.
The most damning example: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 — a title that shattered PS5 sales records — peaked at just 28,189 concurrent players on Steam. Compare that to Spider-Man Remastered’s 66,436 peak back in 2022, and you can see the decline in real time. Each new port performed worse than the last.

A faction within PlayStation reportedly began arguing that PC availability was actually hurting the console brand — giving players a reason to skip the PS5 entirely and wait for a cheaper Steam release. Sony clearly agreed.
What This Means for PC Gamers Going Forward
The rule is now clear: live-service and multiplayer titles will still reach PC, but story-driven, single-player PlayStation exclusives are staying on PS5. If you want Ghost of Yotei, Wolverine, or whatever comes next in that mould — you’ll need Sony’s console.
This is also a signal to the wider industry. Xbox went all-in on day-one multiplatform. PlayStation is going the other direction. Which strategy wins is the defining console war question of the next three years.
