After 13 years, six seasons, and one of television’s most iconic characters, Peaky Blinders has finally reached its end. Tommy Shelby is dead. What Happens at the End?
The film is set in 1940, several years after Season 6. Tommy has been living in self-imposed exile, haunted by the death of his daughter Ruby and the devastating revelation that he killed his own brother Arthur during a drunken confrontation.

Villain Beckett (Tim Roth) — a fascist running a counterfeit currency operation backed by Nazi interests — forces Tommy back to Birmingham. The showdown is brutal. Tommy dismantles Beckett’s entire scheme and personally kills him, but not before taking two serious stomach wounds. Knowing he won’t survive, Tommy embraces Duke (Barry Keoghan) and asks him to shoot him in front of witnesses — so Duke can fully assume leadership of the Peaky Blinders. Duke carries out the request, and Tommy dies shortly afterwards. SciFiNow
Why This Ending Is Deeply Intentional
This isn’t a random villain killing Tommy Shelby. Tommy scripts the ending himself — he removes the enemy, names the successor, and turns his death into a transfer of power rather than a collapse. World of Reel It’s the ultimate act of control from a man who spent his entire life fighting to hold onto it.
The film ends with Kaulo (Rebecca Ferguson) retrieving a manuscript Tommy wrote in exile, titled The Immortal Man, ahead of his traditional Romany funeral pyre. His body, surrounded by forged money and family photographs, burns on the moors as Duke, Kaulo and surviving friends pay their respects. SciFiNow
The title stops meaning literal immortality and starts meaning story, myth, and legacy — exactly as creator Steven Knight always intended.
What Comes Next?
Tommy Shelby’s story is over, but Peaky Blinders itself isn’t. Knight has confirmed that a follow-up series telling the stories of a new generation of Shelbys is in development, with Cillian Murphy serving as executive producer. Knight Edge Media
