Patriot Trailer Review: When Two Malayalam Legends Share the Screen, Magic Happens

Malayalam cinema fans, this one’s for you. The Patriot trailer just dropped, and honestly? It’s the kind of content that reminds you why we fell in love with Kerala’s two biggest superstars in the first place. Mammootty and Mohanlal reuniting on the big screen after nearly a decade — that alone is enough to send chills down your spine.

Patriot (2026) — Overview

What Is Patriot About?

The trailer opens with Nayanthara’s character interrogating someone about a deeply disturbing situation. As it unfolds, the film dives into a chilling premise — a nation’s intelligence infrastructure being quietly privatized, and how catastrophic that could be if it falls into dangerous hands.

One man decides to fight back. But the system turns on him, branding him a criminal. Cornered and isolated, he turns to his closest friend — and that’s where the real spark of the film ignites. The spy thriller genre gets a fresh, intensely emotional Malayalam makeover here.

The trailer runs for over three minutes and every second feels deliberate. Mahesh Narayanan — the director behind the gripping Malik — clearly knows how to frame tension, loyalty, and consequence with quiet ferocity.

Why This Trailer Has Everyone Talking

Let’s be real — the entire premise of Mammootty playing the suave, mission-driven operative while Mohanlal steps in as his unshakeable ally is cinematic gold. Their dynamic in the trailer feels lived-in, warm but loaded with weight. This isn’t just two stars sharing screen space — it’s two institutions having a conversation.

Sushin Shyam’s background score in the trailer ties it all together beautifully, building tension without overdoing it.

What’s Next for the Lead Stars?

Both leads have packed pipelines beyond Patriot. Mammootty is wrapping up Padayaatra under the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and is also attached to Dhanush’s D55 and the much-anticipated Mattancherry Mafia. Meanwhile, Mohanlal has Drishyam 3 arriving on May 21, 2026 (his 66th birthday!), plus an ongoing shoot for L366.

Two legends, zero signs of slowing down.
