Patriot Box Office: Mammootty & Mohanlal’s Dream Team is Delivering — And Malayalam Cinema is Celebrating

When two of Malayalam cinema’s greatest legends share the screen together in a full-fledged spy thriller, the audience shows up. Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, is doing exactly what was expected of it — commanding the Kerala box office with steady, confident strides right from Day 1.

Patriot Day 2 Numbers Hold Strong

After an explosive opening of Rs. 8.50 crore, Patriot witnessed a 38 per cent drop on Day 2, adding Rs. 5.25 crore to take its two-day gross to Rs. 13.75 crore at the Kerala box office. While a drop was natural, the overall trajectory remains healthy for a film banking on strong word-of-mouth.

A Weekend Figure That Speaks Volumes

The film is expected to close its opening weekend around Rs. 18 crore in Kerala — a banger debut by any standard. The positive-to-mixed audience response, combined with the sheer pull of its ensemble cast, is what’s keeping the momentum alive. The critical test, however, will be its weekday hold.

Why Patriot Is a Big Deal for Mollywood

Patriot is undoubtedly the biggest Malayalam film of 2026 in terms of scale and star power, and it is being compared to top Kerala grossers like Lokah Chapter One: Chandra, L2: Empuraan, Thudarum, Vaazha 2, and Manjummel Boys.

The Malayalam film industry has built a remarkable reputation in recent years for delivering content-driven, high-concept films — and Patriot fits right into that tradition. Beyond Mammootty and Mohanlal, the film boasts a stellar cast including Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Revathy, Indrans, and others. That’s not a cast — that’s a cinematic event.
