Paris Is the New Riyadh — The Esports World Cup 2026 Is Coming to France This Summer

The Esports World Cup just made history. For the first time since its inception, the world’s largest esports event is leaving Saudi Arabia — and it’s heading straight to one of the most iconic sporting cities on the planet. Paris, France will host the Esports World Cup 2026 from July 6 to August 23, marking a landmark moment in competitive gaming’s global ambition.

French President Emmanuel Macron personally acknowledged the announcement, signalling just how seriously France is taking its place in the esports ecosystem.

Esports World Cup 2026 Paris — Everything You Need to Know

Why Paris, and Why Now?

The Esports Foundation has always held a long-term vision of rotating the EWC across major global markets. That ambition has been accelerated for 2026, with the organisation citing the need to offer “clarity and stability” for players, clubs, publishers, partners, and fans given the current regional situation in the Middle East.

Riyadh isn’t being left behind — far from it. EWC CEO Ralf Reichert was clear in his statement that Riyadh remains the spiritual home of the event and one of the world’s leading esports hubs. Paris is simply the first international chapter in what will be an ongoing story of global expansion.

The choice of Paris is no accident either. The city hosted the 2024 Summer Olympics and has long been considered one of the world’s premier destinations for large-scale international sport. The infrastructure, the fanbase, and the cultural weight are all there. Bringing the EWC to a city of this stature sends a powerful message: esports belongs on the same stage as any traditional sport.

The Scale Is Staggering

If you’re new to the Esports World Cup, the numbers put it in immediate perspective. In 2025, the event reached over 750 million viewers worldwide, generated 350 million hours watched, and saw peak concurrent viewership approach 8 million. It was broadcast across 28 platforms through 97 broadcast partners and 800+ channels in 35 languages, reaching fans across 140 countries.

This year’s Paris edition will once again bring together more than 2,000 players and 200 clubs from over 100 countries, competing across 24 games in 25 tournaments — all for a share of a $75 million+ prize pool, the largest in esports history.

Details on the specific Paris venue will be announced in the coming weeks. Fans with existing tickets will be contacted directly by organisers.

What This Means for Global Esports?

This is genuinely a watershed moment. The EWC moving to Paris isn’t just a logistical shift — it’s a declaration that esports is a truly global sport with no fixed home, capable of filling world-class venues on any continent.

For Indian esports fans and teams, the Paris edition also opens up new possibilities in terms of accessibility and international exposure. India has been a growing force in competitive gaming, and events like the EWC continuing to expand their global footprint only helps the ecosystem develop further.
