Two of Korean drama’s most reliable leads may be teaming up for a fresh mystery-crime story. Park Ji Hyun is reportedly in talks to join Lee Jong Suk in Paradise, a new project from the writer behind one of the genre’s most acclaimed recent hits. Here’s what’s confirmed so far.

What Is Paradise About?

Paradise follows reporter Kang Chi Young and police officer Cha Jung Won, who become entangled in a shocking incident and set out together to uncover long-buried secrets behind the case. Lee Jong Suk is reportedly in talks to play Kang Chi Young, the reporter, while Park Ji Hyun has been offered the role of Cha Jung Won, the detective. Together, the two would investigate the central mystery driving the story.

Where Things Stand

News outlet IZE reported on July 16 that Park Ji Hyun had been cast as the female lead. In response, her agency Namoo Actors offered a more measured statement, confirming only that it’s one of the projects she’s currently reviewing — standard language in Korean entertainment reporting that signals interest without a finalized commitment. Lee Jong Suk’s involvement was previously reported as being in talks as well, meaning both leads are still working through final negotiations rather than officially confirmed.

The Team Behind It

Paradise comes from writer Kim Su Jin, best known for Beyond Evil, the acclaimed crime drama starring Shin Ha Kyun and Yeo Jin Goo that swept Best Drama and Best Screenplay at the Baeksang Arts Awards in 2021. That pedigree alone has fans paying close attention, given how well-regarded Beyond Evil remains within the genre.

Directing duties fall to Oh Choong Hwan, a producing director with an impressive resume that includes Start-Up, While You Were Sleeping, and Big Mouth — a track record spanning romance, fantasy, and crime thriller territory alike.

Why This Pairing Has Fans Excited

Both actors bring strong track records to a mystery-crime setup like this. Lee Jong Suk has built a career on emotionally grounded leading roles, while Park Ji Hyun has been steadily building momentum with recent projects. Paired with a writer known for elevating genre storytelling beyond typical procedural beats, Paradise has the ingredients to be one of the more closely watched dramas in early development stages right now.

What’s Next

As of now, no official casting confirmation, broadcaster, or premiere date has been announced. Given that both leads are still reviewing the project, further updates are expected in the coming weeks.
