The top Indian players to watch out for, as India aim for their 7th Asia Cup Trophy

4

India are looking to win their seventh Asia Cup title. They are the most successful team with 6 trophies (5 in ODIs and 1 in T20Is).

In the 2016 Asia Cup, India won the final by beating Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the final held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium situated in Mirpur locality, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is for the sixth time that India won the Asia cup title in 2016. Shikhar Dhawan of India was the man of the match for his 60 runs. Sabbir Rahman of Bangladesh was the player of the series.

India begin their 2018 Asia Cup campaign against Hong Kong, today at 5 pm. And then they take on arch rivals Pakistan on Wednesday.

Here are the top India players to watch out for :

  • Rohit Sharma

In Virat Kohli’s absence who is given rest after the England series, it’s up to Rohit Sharma to guide the team to their 7th Asia Cup title overall. Rohit Sharma commonly known as Hitman by his fans has played 183 ODIs so far has an average of 45, with 18 centuries and 34 fifties. He also holds the world record for the most number of ODI double centuries (3). Rohit Sharma has captained the side in the past and it will be interesting to see his tactics, especially in the crunch games versus arch rivals Pakistan.

  • MS Dhoni

The best wicket-keeper batsman in world cricket, MS Dhoni will be back in action. While Dhoni the keeper and middle order batsman will be key to India’s success. It’s Dhoni’s sharp cricketing brain that will perhaps be a bigger asset for the Team. His inputs will be invaluable. The former captain didn’t have the best of outings in the ODI series vs England with the bat. He scored 79 runs in 2 innings. But Dhoni is not one to dwell on past failures. One of the best finisher’s in the modern day game will be looking to silence his batting critics as India countdown to the 2019 ODI World Cup.

  • Jasprit Bumrah

The Number 1 ranked ICC ODI bowler might have a very big role to play in India’s Asia Cup campaign. The 24 year old, Jasprit Bumrah has played 37 ODIs so far and taken 64 wickets. His best figure is 5/27. The conditions in UAE will be challenging. But Bumrah’s pace, guile and unique straight arm action, coupled with his ability to bowl yorkers at the end of the innings will be something Rohit Sharma will be banking on.

  • Kuldeep Yadav

The 23 year old left hand chinaman bowler could well be one of the most successful bowlers in this edition of the tournament. Since Kuldeep Yadav ‘s ODI debut in June 2017 vs West Indies, he has become a regular in the Indian limited overs teams. In his 23 ODIs career he has already taken 48 wickets. He has an incredible best figure of 6/25. His variations could trouble the best batsmen in the tournament on pitches which will assist spinners.

  • KL Rahul

Just coming from the England series KL Rahul will surely be a key player for India. KL Rahul was one of the most successful batsman in the series. He made a century in the t20 match and a 149 at the last innings of the final test against England. He was the 2nd highest run scorer for India after Kohli.

Manchester City is the favourite to win the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League

The favourite for the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League comes as a surprise. It’s not Real Madrid or Barcelona or Juventus. It’s Manchester City, according to the bookies.

The UEFA Champions League gets underway on Tuesday. And the group stage draws have some fantastic clashes.

How will Paris Saint-Germain cope on an electric European night at Anfield? Will Cristiano Ronaldo score on his return to Old Trafford? And who will prevail in that Group of Death containing Barcelona, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund? There are many questions in our mind right now.

But the most important question going on in our mind now is that who will win the UCL?

The bookmakers have answered this question right now. They have backed Manchester City to win this season’s UEFA Champions League. Despite the fact they’ve never won the UCL or even made it to the final before. Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions are 9/2 favourites to win European club football’s biggest prize.

It’s a saying you never see a broke bookie and when it comes to football forecasting, they get it right more often than not. Last season, Real Madrid were priced at 4/1 favourites to win the Champions League. And they successfully completed a hattrick of UCL trophies.

Barcelona are second on the list at 6/1. Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Turin has seen Juventus well backed. The Italian champions have contested two of the last four finals in this competition. And they are priced at 13/2 by some bookmakers while some are also hailing Juventus as the co-favourites. But the question is can Ronaldo, the top scorer of UCL, rediscover his magic for his new side?

Paris Saint-Germain are at 7/1. PSG were all the rage last year and the Ligue 1 side went into the last 16 draw as favourites. They dominated their group but came unstuck against the eventual winners in the first knockout phase. Despite still having plenty to prove on this stage, the club that can boast both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in attack.

Title Holders Real Madrid are priced at 8/1 to make it four Champions Leagues in a row. After Zinedine Zidane left the club and also the competition’s leading scorer joing Juventus, it’s no surprise to see Real Madrid a little further back in the betting.

While 2013 winners Bayern Munich are priced at 10/1. Last year’s finalists Liverpool are at 12/1, same as Atletico Madrid. But interestingly, the bookies reckon Spurs (20/1) have a better chance of winning the UEFA Champions League than Manchester United (28/1).

But among the top 4, Barcelona is probably the best bet. They have a complete squad this time, though they lost Iniesta. At 6/1 it could well be Barcelona’s year.

Cristiano Ronaldo finally opens his goals tally for Juventus with a brace against Sassuolo

1

Cristiano Ronaldo is up and running for Juventus. He ended his 320 minute wait for his first Serie A goals by scoring a brace against Sassuolo.

Juventus have won their first three games and led Serie A with nine points heading into Sunday’s match against Sassuolo. But Ronaldo, five-times World Player of the Year, had yet to hit the back of the net since his move from Real Madrid in July. The Portuguese superstar secured a €100 million (£89m/$116m) move to Turin over the summer. He opted to bring his nine-year stint with Real Madrid to an end.

Ronaldo finally found the back of the net in his 4th Seria A outing. A Sassuolo defender headed the ball against his own post. And the rebound left the Portugal forward with an empty net to open his account for the Old Lady. His effort from close range was his 28th shot on goal since joining Juventus. And it opened the floodgates.

Just over 10 minutes after scoring his first goal for Juventus, Ronaldo scored his second. His opener was a little scruffy. But the five-times Ballon d’Or winner looked more like his usual self when hitting the net again. But Ronaldo missed two easy chances, by his standard, to deny himself a hattrick.

There was late drama as Khouma Babacar pulled a goal back for Sassuolo. Douglas Costa was also sent off. He spitted and elbowed a Sassuolo player. He is likely to be punished further. But Juventus held on for a 2-1 win.

The goals will come as a relief to Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri. He had stuck his neck out ahead of the match and predicted that Ronaldo would find the net against Sassuolo.

Cristiano Ronaldo found his form back just before the match against Valencia in the UCL. It is a relief for Juventus, but a nightmare for their opponents as the UCL has always been about Ronaldo in the last few years.
