The U.K. launched 36 satellites for OneWeb in collaboration with its Indian partner

0

The demand for the high-speed broadband network has increased in the market, especially during the pandemic. Amidst all this, Elon Musk has set his sight on the stars, literally. His company is offering broadband from space, using satellites, of course. But that’s not what we are going to talk about today.

The United Kingdom has launched 36 satellites for the partly state-owned OneWeb network. The company is competing with Elon Musk to offer broadband internet from space. It is an overly ambitious project that determines how the next evolution in broadband technology will take place.

The satellites were launched from Vostochny Cosmodrome in eastern Russia and are the first for OneWeb. If you might remember, it was the Indian billionaire Sunil Mittal who helped the U.K. save OneWeb from potential bankruptcy. Their $1 billion investment gives the two partners a stake in one of the hottest and riskiest space investment areas. We are talking about low-earth-orbit communications people.

OneWeb’s new space venture signals a partnership between the U.K. and India. According to sources, United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to visit New Delhi next month to seek a post-Brexit trade deal with India. It is worth remembering that the U.K. senior civil servants opposed the agreement who had reservations regarding the new partnership.

“I know a lot of close co-operation is expected between the two nations, especially with the U.K. coming out of its E.U. restrictions, or shackles. It will be the first time when the U.K. will be able to speak to India on a new trade deal, new co-operation, intelligence-sharing.”

Why is the low-earth orbit a risky venture?

As one might understand, ground-based terminals are famous but are incredibly complicated and costly to implement and maintain. But as many before OneWeb, no low-earth orbit broadband network has turned up profits; even Elon Musk thinks it is quite risky, with more chances of failure than success.

However, Mittal is quite optimistic about this partnership’s future and deploying a space broadband network. OneWeb will now have 110 satellites in space and is aiming to target the figure of 648.

US Department of commerce bans DroneDJ citing national security concern

0

We all know about the ongoing US-China scuffle, which has turned into an all-out trade war. It is not news that the company which suffered the most in this Trade War is the Chinese tech giant Huawei. Its products were banned, and the companies that utilize US technology were prohibited from selling their products to Huawei.

Recently one more Chinese company was blacklisted by the US Department of Commerce. The Chinese company DroneDJ has been blacklisted, citing national security concerns, and the US administration has banned US-based companies from exporting technology to the company.

The ban primarily focuses on blocking the export of US technology to the drone-maker. The ban will make it difficult for US businesses to provide parts or components for DJI to use in its drones, which is likely to disrupt the company’s supply chain.

According to recent reports, the ban will affect when the entity list is officially updated by the US Department of Commerce at 11:15 AM ET. The US commerce department stated that DJI “enabled wide-scale human rights abuses within China through abusive genetic collection and analysis or high-technology surveillance.”

The claim comes about DJI’s involvement in providing drones to the Chinese government to survey detention camps in the Xinjiang province. The addition of DJI in the entity list comes as a significant blow to the Chinese tech market even China’s Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation, or SMIC was listed in response to purported ties between the company and the Chinese military.

It was the Trump administration that started the campaign against Chinese tech companies. Trump placed Huawei on the entity list by executive order in May 2019, citing national security concerns. He then took similar measures to block TikTok and WeChat from being hosted in US app stores. But both TikTok and WeChat are still widely available in the US. And as we all know, European nations still use Huawei technology in their telecommunication infrastructure.

Nearly 200 Organisations Suspectedly Hacked by Russia: Cybersecurity firm

0

Government agencies and companies are on high alert as at least 200 organizations have been hacked as part of a suspected Russian cyber-attack, said a cybersecurity firm and three people familiar with ongoing investigations. Malicious code has been implanted in a widely used software program.

The cyber-attack used a backdoor in SolarWinds Corp.’s Orion network management software as a starting point for further attacks. One of the unanswered questions surrounding the hack is the number of actual hacking victims.

The malicious update was received by around 18,000 SolarWinds customers but the hacked computer networks are likely to be far fewer.

Threat analyst Allan Liska has said that a cybersecurity firm based in Massachusetts, Recorded Future Inc., has identified 198 hacking victims through the SolarWinds backdoor. Three other people who are familiar with the ongoing investigations said that the hackers further compromised at least 200 victims, moving within the computer networks or attempting to gain user credentials while the final number could rise from there. Neither of the sources provided any information about the victims or the motive of the hackers.

More than 1,000 of the roughly 18,000 receivers of the malicious update experienced the code ping a so-called second stage “command and control” server operated by hackers, providing them with the possibility to hack further into the network, according to publicly available data and the three people.  The next step for the hackers would be to themselves infiltrate the computer network.

According to Bloomberg, a SolarWinds spokesperson said the company “remains focused on collaborating with customers and experts to share information and work to better understand this issue.”

“It remains early days of the investigation,” the spokesperson added.

A suspicion was there from the start about the involvement of hackers affiliated with the Russian government and Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Friday provided confirmation in an interview.

“There was a significant effort to use a piece of third-party software to essentially embed code inside of U.S. government systems, and it now appears systems of private companies and companies and governments across the world as well This was a very significant effort, and I think it’s the case that now we can say pretty clearly that it was the Russians that engaged in this activity.”

President Donald Trump downplayed the hack via a tweet and suggested that China, not Russia, might be responsible. Meanwhile, the acting chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Marco Rubio, added that it was “increasingly clear that Russian intelligence conducted the gravest cyber intrusion in our history.”

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said the attackers have “demonstrated sophistication and complex tradecraft,” and it also said it had found evidence of other potential backdoors besides the SolarWinds Orion network.

FireEye Inc. disclosed on December 8 that they were hacked and Microsoft Corp. said on Thursday that 40 of its customers had been hacked. Among those hit by the cyber-attacks were unnamed cybersecurity companies, government contractors and agencies, roughly 80% of which are in the U.S.

Javier Mascherano feels hurt by seeing Barcelona’s current situation

0

Javier Mascherano enjoyed some beautiful years at the Camp Nou. He played 8 years for Barcelona winning numerous trophies. He has played in one of the best Barcelona squads under Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique.

Since then Barcelona have lost their identity and their style of play. It hurts Mascherano seeing Barcelona in this current situation.

According to a report by Sport, the former Barcelona player said in an interview to ‘The Tactical Room’: “It hurts me that Barcelona has moved away from the model that made it great. That it has prioritized other things and has not maintained what had made the club so great and above all so different. If there was something that Barcelona had done differently, it was the model and has moved away from that model for a long time.”

Mascherano praised his compatriot, Lionel Messi, with whom he has numerous unforgettable moments both at Barcelona and the Argentina national team. He said: “When he catches the ball there is always a feeling that something is going to happen. Generating that around the world must be something unmatched. And he has generated it every three days for 15 years. we are talking about someone different “.

“He is a very special person. But not because of what he is as a player but because of how earthly he is being what he is. I have not met anyone who is so important in what he does in the history of the sport and who has that capacity to come to talk to you, ask you or ask for an opinion. Usually older people like him don’t, “he added.

Mascherano further complimented Pep Guardiola under whom he was converted to a centre-back from a midfielder. He said: “I did not have the profile of a midfielder for that team. Pep knew it. But that is the greatest trophy of my career. Having been able to change the way of thinking about it to me a coach like Guardiola, possibly the best coach in the last 30 years. Through work, sacrifice and understanding what my role was, I was able to find my place there.”

A14 Bionic still ahead of Snapdragon 888

Apple’s iPhone 12 was released in the market a month ago and with the device came along the beast. That’s right. We are talking about Apple’s A14 Bionic, the current undisputed champion of mobile processors. Earlier the title was held by A13 bionic, and everyone was calling A13 the beast. Then the only term suitable for A14 Bionic will be a monster.

In benchmark scores, A13 Bionic already beat every processor in the market when it was launched. Now, however, Apple’s A14 Bionic shattered them all like a piece of glass. Even Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 888, cannot beat A14 Bionic in benchmark scores.

According to sources, the latest benchmark score indicates that Apple’s A14 Bionic is hugely faster than Snapdragon 888. Not only that, the Snapdragon 888 even falls behind the A13 Bionic. Well, in Spandragon 888’s defense, it still is faster than its predecessors, which is a real big deal.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 is based on a 5nm architecture and features one ARM Cortex X-1 core and three ARM Cortex-A78 cores. It is capable of reaching up to 2.84GHz and also supports the latest Wi-Fi 6.

Apple’s A14 Bionic scores 1603 in the single-core performance, and in the multi-core performance, Snapdragon 888 got a score of 3794 compared to the Snapdragon 865 Plus’ 3245. Roughly, this is a 17 percent jump. But it is still no match for Apple’s A14 Bionic that received a massive 4187 in the multi-thread performance.

In terms of GPU power, Snapdragon 888 is not only unable to beat Apple’s A14 Bionic but also falls behind the A13 Bionic. But as we all know, these are just test results and should not be compared with real-world performance. However, for those who don’t know, it was previously reported that Snapdragon 888 beats A14 Bionic in terms of performance, but the current benchmark scores say otherwise. Only time will tell who will prevail among the two.

Poco to enter the Indian laptop market

0

Poco, which was once a part of Xiaomi, has now become an independent brand. Since then, it has vigorously tried to expand its portfolio in the Indian market. Its smartphones are undoubtedly one of the best selling smartphones in the Indian market.

According to the latest sources, Poco may soon enter the laptop segment in India as well. We all know how high the demand for high-performing notebooks has increased in the market. During the pandemic tech industry has flourished to leaps and bounds in comparison to previous years. It is not a surprise that even new players like Poco want to dip their hands in the fool of this growing segment.

Reports that two laptop battery models have recently passed through the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website. The battery models – R15B02W and R14B02W are listed under both Mi and Poco brands.

It is indicated that the battery model R15B02W belongs to the Mi Notebook Pro 15. Xiaomi launched the Mi Notebook Pro 15 in China this June, and the battery is listed under Mi Notebook Pro on AliExpress. All this suggests that the first Poco laptop could be a rebranded Mi Notebook Pro.

If we know anything about both Xiaomi and Poco, both are experts in the strategy of rebranding and selling. If the new laptop from Poco is indeed a rebranding of Xiaomi’s already existing notebook, then it really won’t be a surprise.

For now, there isn’t any official confirmation as to what will be the specs of the upcoming device. Neither is known as to when the notebook will be launched. All we know is that the launch of Poco’s first notebook is indeed going to happen.

COVID-19 forces Apple to shut its stores again

Covid-19 took the world by storm when the World Health Organization declared as a worldwide pandemic. Taking the lives and billions and plunging the world into chaos caused us tremendous grief and economic losses.

However, the world is finally gearing up to test the vaccines, and they will be launching the vaccine for global usage soon. But even if the world is on the verge of receiving the vaccines, the threat of COVID is still real, and it still exists. As such, a tragedy has struck in Apple’s retail stores in California and the United Kingdom.

Apple Inc. temporarily closed all of its retail stores across California and those in the greater London area hit by a new lockdown and other markets that have seen a surge in Covid-19 cases. The Cupertino giant stated that it’s closing all 53 locations across the Golden State, a day after saying it would shut its stores in the Los Angeles area. However, the company didn’t state when it will reopen.

Apple was aiming to top $100 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time on sales of the iPhone 12, its latest iPads, and new Apple Watches. The festive season was a perfect opportunity for the Cupertino giant to increase its sales. But unfortunately, the pandemic seems to cause a delay for the company’s plans.

“Due to current Covid-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation, and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible.”

California state passed the 1.8 million mark on Saturday, when it added 43,608 new infections and 272 deaths, for a total of 22,432 fatalities. U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposed a full lockdown on London and southeast England in an attempt to stop a new coronavirus strain from spreading rapidly over the country.

AMD has an extremely promising 2021 & 2022 APU roadmap

AMD’s upcoming lineup of CPU’s and GPU’s is extremely promising. We are all anxious about the release of Ryzen 5000 at the upcoming CES 2021 event. As for the other Zen3 based beasts being launched by AMD. We might have an update regarding them.

According to sources, Advanced Micros Devices will be launching a total of two Cezanne flavours in 2021. They will be a 45W and a 15W version, and the 15W version is configurable to a higher TDP.

Fortunately, both the version will be based on AMD’s Zen3 architecture with a Vega 7 iGPU. Reports also indicate that AMD will launch another APU, that is Lucienne-U, which is based on Zen2 and will have a 15W TDP as well. All APUs will be fabricated on the 7nm process from TSMC. VanGogh, with a TDP of just 9W, is also part of the lineup and will be the second Zen2 part manufactured next year.

It is reported that vanilla Zen APU called Pollock with a TDP of just 4.5W and fabricated on the 14nm process is also a part of the Roadmap. AMD will keep its foot on the pedal in 2022 as well. The primary lineup involves the Rembrandt lineup, and they will be in 45W and 15W flavours. And they will be based on AMD’s advanced Zen3+ architecture and will also feature Navi2 iGPUs. Both Rembrandt APUs will be manufactured on TSMC’s 6nm processor. Rembrandt will feature LPDDR5, and AMD’s Barcelo-U will succeed Vangogh with no apparent change and is likely to be a refresh.

All the leaks confirm that AMD is gearing up to take the trophy home next year. Its lineup is as impressive as its performance has been in 2020. Regardless of anything, I am incredibly excited to see how Zen3+ architecture will perform. If this year is any indication, then Nvidia and Intel need to vary AMD’s future accomplishments.

Manchester United is considering a new offer for Marcus Rashford

Manchester United is now considering to offer Marcus Rashford a new long term deal with a hike in wage in the new year.

Marcus Rashford’s deal with Manchester United will end in July 2023 with an option to extend for another year. But the Red Devils want to keep the English striker for a long future.

As a kid I’ve never looked beyond Manchester United in my mind, it wouldn’t sit right for me to be pulling on another shirt.”

“All the good things that have happened this year it’s come from Manchester United giving me the opportunity as a kid,” he added.

“I don’t just remember the last year or the last five years, I’m talking about the times when nobody in my family drove and I had to get to training, and United had people to come and take me to the training ground and take me back home.”

“I just want to do the best I can for the club whilst I’m here, so hopefully I’m here for the long term.”

Rashford’s brace against Sheffield United helped United to make another comeback in away games in the league this season. United will face Leeds United tonight in the old historical ‘Roses Derby’.
