TATA is in serious talks to produce iPhones in India

The Tata Group is about to acquire a sizable plant in southern India in a deal that would provide the country with their first-ever produced iPhones. Two sources with knowledge of the issue claim that the airline-to-software company has been in contact with the firm’s owner, Taiwan’s Wistron Corp., for weeks and anticipates concluding the purchase by the end of March.

The First Ever Apple iPhone Plant in India by Tata!

The sources claim that although the two businesses have talked about a number of prospective combinations, the present focus of their conversations is Tata purchasing a controlling interest in a partnership. It has been claimed that Tata will be in control of the major manufacturing operation alongside support from Wistron.

The majority of Taiwan’s industrial giants, including Foxconn Technology Group and Wistron, are involved in the assembly of iPhones. Tata’s acquisition would support India’s efforts, which have been hindered by political issues with the US and issues associated with Covid, to create indigenous competitors to China’s supremacy in the electronics industry.

Tata wants to complete the due diligence process by March 31 so that it can officially take over Wistron’s position in a government incentive program. The start of the new incentive cycle and the beginning of the Indian budget year both fall on April 1.

The deal may value Wistron’s sole iPhone production facility in India at around $600 million if the Taiwanese company meets the requirements to receive the anticipated incentives for the ongoing financial year. Tata’s spokesperson declined to comment. Apple and Wistron did not respond to requests for comment.

According to the brother of Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of the Tata Group, the contract will help India to take the lead in the electronics industry. Wistron is among three Taiwanese iPhone producers in India, alongside Pegatron Corp. and Foxconn. In an effort to diversify its company beyond low-margin iPhone manufacturing into industries like servers, it decided to sell its iPhone production facility in China to a competitor in 2020.

But even while Wistron plans to discontinue manufacturing iPhones in India, its competitors in Taiwan are adding more production lines for the device. Apple, the most successful producer of smartphones in the world, is making an effort to reduce its dependency on China, where distribution network constraints imposed by the pandemic and strict restrictions have had a terrible effect on device manufacturing.

The 2.2 million sq. ft Wistron factory is located just over 50 km east of Bangalore. If the agreement is finalized, Apple will sell all 8 of the iPhone units to Tata, along with the 10,000 workers at the plant, which includes a few hundred thousand engineers. Wistron would keep offering iPhone services in India.

Tata has taken further steps to strengthen its connection with Apple. It has sped up hiring at its manufacturing in Hosur, where it manufactures iPhone components. Tata may eventually construct assembly plants for the iPhone on a few 100 acres surrounding the facility. In this quarter, Mumbai will welcome the first of Tata’s 100-planned Apple stores In India.

The 150-year-old Tata Group manufactures everything from Tetley Tea and branded salt to Jaguar cars and steel, in addition to owning a national airline and Starbucks. TCS is among India’s most valuable firms by market value, it is the largest IT outsourcing company in Asia.

New AMD Ryzen non-X CPUs look tempting: Ryzen 9 7900 almost catches up with 7900X

0

The Red team has just announced its efficient AMD Ryzen 7000 non-X series with 65W TDP at CES 2023 to cater to the needs of gamers who aren’t looking to shell out on the very-powerful Ryzen 7000X series processors. So, with lower pricing and TDP is there a lot at stake? Well, the recent video from Linus doesn’t seem so.

As we already know AMD has been making pretty impressive and efficient chips off late, continuing its momentum with Zen 4, however, giving the best performance/Watt is what matters at the end of the day. While I was attending launch events for both Intel and AMD, both demonstrated that their X or K series chips can be underpowered and will give much better results at lower TDPs as well.

AMD Ryzen 7000 non-X CPUs – How do they perform?

Now, most people won’t do so especially when they are paying extra for that level of performance, however, there are people who look forward to efficient chips for their PCs at work or home. For them, with modest cooling, these new AMD Ryzen 9 7900 or Ryzen 7 7700 or even the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 come very close to their expensive X brothers which in itself is a big achievement.

  • New AMD Ryzen non-X CPUs look tempting: Ryzen 7 7900 almost catches up with 7900X

In Linus’s benchmarks, we see all of these non-X Ryzen 7000 chips performing almost near to the AMD Ryzen 7000X chips drawing far less power. From F1 22 to Cyberpunk 2077, we see the Ryzen 5 7600 almost delivering at the level of the Ryzen 5 7600X or even beating Core i5-13600K in many benchmarks.

Whereas the 12-core Ryzen 9 7900 is again very impressive beating out the likes of Core i9-13900K in games like CS: GO which is highly CPU intensive. The Ryzen 7 7700 will not be a good choice unless it’s very economical but that also gives very near performance to that of the 7700X.

via Linus Tech Tips

If you talk about gaming overall, the new Ryzen 5 7600 gives even better results than the Core i5-13600K and is inches apart from its brother 7600X. On the other hand, the Ryzen 7 7700 is fast but not as good as its sibling whereas the 12-core Ryzen 9 7900 is also quite good, just 4% short of the Ryzen 9 7900X.

In productivity too, the scenario doesn’t change much and these new AMD Ryzen 7000 non-X CPUs continue to dominate for their incredible performance per watt.

Al-Nassr planning to sign Sergio Busquets from Barcelona with €13m deal ready

0

After signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr have their eyes set on signing Sergio Busquets from Barcelona. The iconic midfielder’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and he hasn’t started talking about a renewal as of yet.

By the looks of things, the Spaniard could leave his boyhood club to take up a new challenge. There have been rumours linking him with a switch to the MLS a few weeks ago – with Inter Miami one of the teams interested in signing him as a free agent.

Al-Nassr have Sergio Busquets signing in their plans next year

The Saudi Arabian club are preparing a contract worth €13 million per season net to bring him over. And financially, it might be one of the best offers he gets.

Barcelona manager Xavi has been clear about his desire to keep his former teammate at the club beyond the current season. But, there isn’t any firm agreement on the renewal as of yet. A renewal between the two parties could also be made more complicated by the Financial Fair Play sanctions placed on the club.

However, it all comes down to what plans Sergio Busquets has for the coming years of his career. He has won every available trophy with Barcelona, and is on the hunt for another league title – with the team currently leading the table.

Barcelona have considered playing Frenkie De Jong as the central pivot should the veteran leave. There have also been rumours linking N’Golo Kante with a move to Camp Nou. But, the Chelsea player is expected to have contract renewal talks soon which might hamper the chances of a free transfer in the summer. Barca are also not relying on Franck Kessie to play regularly in defensive midfield, and could offload him if they can sign Ruben Neves from Wolves.

0

The gaming industry in India has seen exponential growth over time and the pioneers are Indian gamers obviously, but have you thought of actually educating yourself in gaming? Yes, Hero Vired, India’s premium LearnTech Company for professionals and higher education aspirants, last year launched its Certificate Program in Gaming and Esports.

This one-of-its-kind program is offered in collaboration with leading gaming and esports company, NODWIN Gaming. It is a comprehensive program for aspirants who wish to pursue a career in gaming and esports and will prepare enrollees for several roles in the gaming and esports industry, such as game designing, visualising, publishing, league operations, team ownership & management, live production, and content creation, etc.

Hero Vired

We are always eager to know what this certification course is all about and what will it bring to gamers, so, though on paper the course looks lucrative, here in the interview with the Founder himself, Akshay Munjal, we will talk about how a certification course like this makes sense in India and to whom it’s targeted towards.

As you know, backed by the pioneer Hero Group, Akshay Munjal is also the director of BML Munjal University, a place where a lot of students actually aim for their higher education. This course comes with a 100% job guarantee as the enrollees will be offered internships and jobs with NODWIN Gaming before the completion of the program and anyone above the age of 18 years can enrol in the program.

Akshay Munjal, Founder & CEO of Hero Vired says why in India a certification course like this is absolutely essential

Enough talk on paper, let’s hear from the Founder of Hero Vired, Akshay Munjal himself:

Why does anyone need a certification course to help them excel in gaming and esports? How does it apply in the Indian context?

The gaming and eSports industry has seen tremendous growth in the last few years. India has the second largest number of internet users, along with increasing access to relatively affordable smart devices. Bolstered by these factors, the Indian esports industry is expected to grow with a CAGR of 45% to reach INR 11 billion by 2025, according to an EY Report ‘Ready. Set. Game ON!’. This is the perfect catalyst for the rise of gaming companies, which will need a workforce which is equipped to meet the demands.

India today has over 450 gaming companies and 450 mn gamers across age groups, second only to China globally. However, there is very limited awareness today both amongst parents and the youth regarding the rapidly evolving opportunities in this sector. This program is a conscious endeavour to help bridge this gap. There are many aspirants who need a structured learning approach which will enable them to be employable in the sector or pursue entrepreneurship. The gaming course will serve as a good starting point to get acquainted with the fundamentals of the gaming industry and gain some insight into its working through a hands-on approach.

What’s the curriculum offered for this Hero Vired certification course in gaming and esports? How long is its duration? What’s the total cost?

This is a one-of-its-kind certification program offered in partnership with NODWIN Gaming. It is a comprehensive, six-month-long program for aspirants which will prepare them for several roles in the gaming and esports industry, such as game designing, visualising, publishing, league operations, event ownership and management, live production, content creation, etc. It begins with a two-month primer on gaming and esports, and for the remaining four months, the learners can choose between gaming and eSports as a specialisation.

The program is priced at INR 4 lacs, however, 50% of the program fee can be directly recovered through a unique guaranteed five-month internship upon completing the course.

How’s the Hero Vired certification course unique or different from multi-year game design or game programming diplomas offered by traditional education institutes as well as online MOOCs?

One of our strengths that differentiates us from traditional educational institutes and online MOOCs is our focus on live delivery and deep industry linkages. We work closely with industry leaders, partners and experts to understand the required skill set. Moreover, the program will enable aspirants to start their careers in the gaming industry as it comes with a job guarantee. It also has comprehensive career services, which will train aspirants in resume-building, polishing their LinkedIn profile, and preparing for a mock interview.

The program also offers many opportunities for the learners to interact with industry professionals across the spectrum of gaming & esports and gain a first-hand account of how the industry works. Moreover, we believe in a customised approach to learning and strive towards understanding the skill set of each learner and map their aspirations towards the opportunities. Lastly, this program ends with a guided industry project which is supported by industry experts. Interestingly, depending on the quality some learners will get the opportunity to publish the games they have developed on a publisher’s platform.

How are you collaborating with gaming companies to offer a functional, useful and well-rounded gaming and esports course?

As I mentioned above, one of our strengths is our industry connect. We are closely collaborating with industry experts and partners to understand the skillsets in demand and prepare learners for futuristic roles. While designing this program, we collaborated with leading local and international studios and publishing houses to understand the gaps, and the program will aim to bridge this gap. In addition to NODWIN, the program has UNITY, NSDC, and MESC as certificate partners and GameEon, HolyCow Productions, Godspeed Games, and Moonfrog as industry partners. The learning opportunity enabled by the program is vast and is the perfect foundation to kickstart a lucrative career in esports.

What has been the reaction of students and aspirants to enrol for this Hero Vired certification course in gaming and esports?

We have received an overwhelming response from aspirants, and we are enthused to see the passion and interest shown in this new-age program. It has attracted a very diverse set of learners from different walks of life, such as law, engineering, animation, textile design, tourism etc. and are at different stages in their careers. The first batch is completely sold out, and we have now opened enrolments for the second batch.

How will Hero Vired’s certification course help students excel and succeed in the gaming and esports industry?

This unique and comprehensive program is in line with Hero Vired’s vision to offer industry-first, new-age programs across immersive and futuristic sectors and make learners future-ready. With the best-in-class industry partners, we aim to equip all interested students with the desired knowledge and skills to excel in this fast-growing industry. Learners who opt for gaming as a specialisation will be offered roles such as game developer, game artist, game designer, game audio engineer, etc. The ones who pursue esports as a specialisation will be offered roles in league operations, community management, game marketing, event management, etc.

What are your thoughts on the state of gaming and esports in India? What is the biggest challenge and opportunity for Indian gaming to reach newer heights?

2022 has been the most exciting year for gaming and esports enthusiasts globally. The first-ever Commonwealth Esports Championship being held earlier this year is testimony to the fact that it is being considered a serious form of the sport by everyone. In fact, India’s stellar performance was acknowledged with a bronze medal win by the Indian DOTA 2 squad!

The pandemic spurred the growth of India’s gaming and esports industry. During the lockdown, millions picked up gaming recreationally, with some even making it a full-time profession. The lockdown increased the average daily screen time, which provided a fillip to the industry.

Over the years, affordable smartphones, deeper penetration of internet connectivity, the emergence of new-age technologies, and, more recently, the advent of 5G have fuelled the growth of the industry.

There has also been a tremendous increase in the number of gamers from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in India, primarily mobile gaming. Moreover, many of these recreational gamers are women who picked it up as a hobby during the lockdown but have continued to pursue it even now.

The biggest challenge gamers pose, nowadays, is the high price of gaming hardware and software. Often, the success of a game is directly related to its visuals and graphics. This requires aspiring gamers to invest heavily in hardware and software capable of delivering these visuals. The challenge of highly-priced gaming hardware has unearthed a unique opportunity for entrepreneurship. India is starting to see a surge in the number of gaming cafes, a mega business opportunity, given its ability to entertain audiences at a fraction of the cost. The advent of 5G, the emergence of new-age technology, including Augmented Reality, and, more recently, the Metaverse imply that the industry is poised for a bright future.

India’s iPhone exports trebled to $2.5 billion between April and December

0

With rising geopolitical tensions, Apple Inc. accelerated its transition away from China by exporting more than $2.5 billion worth of iPhones from India between April and December. This figure was nearly twice as high as the sum for the prior fiscal year.

In the midst of rising geopolitical tensions, Apple Inc. exported more iPhones from India than it did from April to December, amounting to more than twice the amount exported from China during the previous fiscal year.

India’s iPhone exports details

In the first nine months of the fiscal year ending March 2023, Foxconn Technology Group and Wistron Corp. shipped more expensive Apple products abroad than $1 billion apiece, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

According to the people who asked not to be identified because the information is secret, Pegatron Corp., another significant Apple contract manufacturer, is on track to export around $500 million worth of the devices by the end of January.

Apple is expanding operations outside of China, where the disruption at Foxconn’s primary facility in Zhengzhou exposed supply chain flaws and forced the Cupertino, California-based corporation to lower output forecasts, as seen by the company’s quickly climbing export figures.

With consumers weighing the risks of a worldwide recession, that exacerbated a larger issue with electronics demand disappearing.

iPhone

The most valuable business in the world, Apple, only started assembling its newest iPhone models in India last year, breaking with tradition by reserving a large portion of those jobs for massive Chinese factories owned by its primary Taiwanese suppliers, including Foxconn.

Despite the fact that India contributes only a small portion of the world’s iPhone production, increasing exports are encouraging for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of positioning India as a viable alternative to China as the world’s factory.

The Wasp: Quantumania:  Paul Rudd’s Marvel Film Finally Reshoot before premiering

The shooting of Ant-Man and ‘The Wasp: Quantumania‘ was out of the matter, who should not forget the name Paul Rudd, the man once again resumed the shooting of the upcoming show. Marvel Studios is also trying its best to make sure the project has everything to make things successful at the box office. After the weekend, Quantumania lead actor Paul Rudd had been spotted being filmed in Los Angeles for the threequel.

Given no suit is involved and a public practical set was involved, it’s all but guaranteed these particular pickups were simply to get the right shot for the film rather than some plot-altering changes.

The Wasp: Quantumania: Production Status

Once in Hollywood, the film was dreaded reshoots as it was often a sign the respective project wasn’t faring well with its studio. However, Marvel Studios scheduled the reshoots before the time to make any required changes to films after screening them for test audiences.

According to Marvel boss Kevin Feige “‘Reshoots’ was a bad word. ‘Oh this movie’s in reshoots, there must be a problem,'”

He added, “Reshoots are key to our films, starting with Iron Man. We always say we’re smart filmmakers at Marvel, but we’re not geniuses and the best way to give notes on a movie is to watch the movie. So we make the movie and go, ‘Oh yeah, no that’s not right. That doesn’t work,” and have a system now that can be quite precise and efficient. [Reshoots last] sometimes one day, sometimes fifteen days, sometimes more to continue to go in and make the move the best it can be.”
