Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 might be the company’s answer to Apple’s M-Series CPUs

0

The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 specifications are extremely promising, and if the SoC performs as well as a true Apple M-series SoC competitor, we will have some real competition in the market. Here are some additional details that we believe you will find interesting.

We previously learned that Qualcomm was developing an unnamed SoC codenamed ‘Hamoa.’ According to @Za_Raczke, who previously spoke about the 12-core SoC, the silicon’s name will be Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4. Qualcomm appears to be working on multiple chipsets, but the one that is said to deliver the most performance boasts eight performance cores and four power-efficiency cores.

Whether the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 will include Qualcomm’s Oryon cores, which are custom solutions made possible by the company’s acquisition of Nuvia, is still unknown.

Regardless, the information he shares sounds intriguing on paper, with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4’s performance cores tested at 3.40GHz and the energy-efficient ones at 2.50GHz. It is unknown whether these clock speeds will remain constant when the silicon is used in commercial products, but we will find out soon.

We also learned that each block of four cores has 12MB of shared L2 cache and 8MB of L3 cache. Surprisingly, Qualcomm isn’t working on a new GPU for the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 because it’s expected to use the Adreno 740, the same graphics processor found in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. While it is still a powerful GPU, the limitations may become apparent when used in Windows notebooks rather than smartphones.

Whereas the M2 Pro and M2 Max are limited to LPDDR5 RAM, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 could support LPDDR5X memory up to 64GB, with the option to run that memory at a lower frequency of 4.20GHz, presumably to prioritise battery life when necessary. Wi-Fi 7 and an external Snapdragon X65 5G modem are said to be included, as well as discrete GPU support across 8 PCIe 4.0 lanes.

There are also four PCIe 4.0 lanes (configurable as two by two) for NVMe drives, with PCIe 3.0 lanes reserved for the Wi-Fi card and modem. If OEMs prefer to use UFS 4.0 onboard memory instead of PCIe, Qualcomm offers that option with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 via a dedicated storage controller. It appears that the chipset manufacturer is going above and beyond because users will be able to connect high-resolution monitors, just like they can on the latest 2023 MacBook Pro models.

Apple starts un-announced lay-offs of its non-seasonal retail sector employees

0

A series of layoffs initiated by large technology companies would frequently prompt people to wonder if Apple would follow suit in 2023. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, previously stated in 2022 that the company would be “deliberate” in its hiring, implying that only key or talented individuals would be hired for the remainder of the year. This could be why, according to a new report, the company has begun laying off non-seasonal employees in the retail sector.

Microsoft announced on January 18 that it will lay off 10,000 employees, reducing its workforce by 5%, and Amazon began layoffs that will eventually result in the loss of over 17,000 jobs. Microsoft and Amazon are joining peers in the tech industry, such as Alphabet and Meta, in laying off employees in recent months.

Most companies that are laying off employees blame it on macroeconomic conditions and the possibility of a future recession. However, one factor that has gone unnoticed is how quickly tech firms hired during their expansion phases.

Apple, on the other hand, is an anomaly. It has not increased its hiring rate or announced any layoffs in the last two years.

Microsoft had 221,000 full-time employees at the end of June 2022, according to the most recent official figures. That was a 40,000-person increase from the same time in 2021, representing a 22 percent increase in staff. Microsoft added 18,000 employees in the previous year, an increase of 11%.

As the company expanded rapidly, Amazon added a record 310,000 jobs in 2021. As a result, it added half a million employees and will grow by more than 38% by 2020.

AppleInsider reported that Apple has begun laying off employees outside of its physical stores. The email has reportedly been verified by multiple sources, with the contents stating that Best Buy employees have received a 30-day notice regarding their rights. It is unclear how many employees Apple intends to lay off as part of its cost-cutting measures, but the company is clearly preparing for a slow 2023.

Apple expected its two top-tier models, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, to generate significant revenue where the less expensive iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus failed. Unfortunately, because Foxconn was forced to implement a temporary lockdown in its Zhengzhou, China facility in late 2022 due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, Apple issued a press release, a rare move for the company.

Google is worried about ChatGPT!

According to sources from The New York Times, Google is concerned about the recent release of OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT. The Times now reports that Google intends to “display a variant of its search engine with chatbot characteristics this year” and to introduce more than 20 AI-driven projects. Google executives were concerned about the firm’s reputation as recently as December, despite the fact that the company has made significant investments in AI technology.

Though things are swiftly evolving. Google revealed earlier this morning that it will be letting go of more than 12,000 people and emphasizing AI as a key area of concentration. No precise launch date for Google’s AI search demo has been given, but other projects from the slide show that the Times was able to watch appear to be planned for the company’s annual event in May, which has previously seen the introduction of products such as Google Glass and Duplex.

Google is worried about ChatGPT!

The situation is so critical that the Times also notes that Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, who continue to hold the majority of shares in Google parent Alphabet, have offered advice to business executives, approved strategies, and presented ideas during meetings to discuss ChatGPT last month. It states that Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google/Alphabet, invited them to engage at this level when they quit their day jobs in 2019.

Google will focus on getting facts right, guaranteeing safety, and getting rid of disinformation, according to the chatbot search demo, in an effort to address the problem of AI replying to requests clearly and confidently with inaccurate information. It is also examining ways to expedite review procedures that are meant to examine the tech to see if it is operating in an ethical and fair manner.

A panel of executives, including Jeff Dean, who oversees the company’s research and AI division, presented the report’s new product launches, which also include an image generation studio that edits and creates images, an application for testing product prototypes, and a set of tools known as MakerSuite that other companies can use to develop AI prototypes directly from a browser window. Additionally, the business is developing two other tools: Colab + Android Studio, which aids in the development of mobile apps, and PaLM-Coder 2, a code generator that is comparable to Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot product.

3 57 Google is worried about ChatGPT!

When introducing new AI products in the past few years, Google has tread gingerly. After sacking two esteemed AI researchers, Margaret Mitchell and Timnit Gebru, the business found itself at the heart of a controversy about the morality of the technology. The two presented concerns about AI language models, highlighting issues such as their propensity to accentuate biases in their learning algorithm and portray erroneous information as fact.

Despite having allegedly the most advanced AI research, Google has only tested technology that is subject to extremely strict restrictions. In the company’s AI Test Kitchen application, users have access to text and image production capabilities that are analogous to OpenAI’s DALL-E and ChatGPT.

2 68 Google is worried about ChatGPT!

But users’ ability to query these programs is heavily constrained by Google. A private demo of a system similar to ChatGPT was presented by the business in 2021. The company has already showcased some of its own chat-intensive AI technologies.

But with the introduction of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and ominous predictions about Google’s impending death, it appears the firm is changing its strategy. The company has previously asserted that it delayed the release of certain AI technologies because there was a potential for reputational harm. It appears that the reputation it wishes to avoid right now is that of being obsolete.

The badminton giant YONEX will manufacture high-quality graphite racquets in India

0

An attempt by YONEX to fulfil rising demand, prices to come down considerably

World’s leading badminton equipment brand YONEX on Saturday announced that it will now manufacture high-quality graphite racquets in the country, expanding its existing production plan and base in India, a move which will bring the cost of full-body racquets down considerably.

Indian shuttlers have been performing exceptionally on the global stage, bringing numerous laurels for the country which includes the historic Thomas Cup triumph as well as winning medals at the World Championships and other multi-nation events such as the Asiad and the Commonwealth Games. Such consistent performances have put badminton in the spotlight as it’s now the second most played sport by both genders in India.

“India is a big market for badminton with its growing economy and interest in the sport. A lot of Indian players are performing really well on the world stage, encouraging more to take up the sport. We want to cater to that audience and provide the highest Japanese quality equipment to further the sport’s development,” Mr Ben Yoneyama, Chairman of YONEX Japan, commented while addressing the media at a press conference in the capital city on Saturday.

The growing popularity of the game has resulted in taking the demand for quality racquets sky high and the market share for badminton is seeing a 10-15% YoY growth. The production of racquets in India will also ensure the product’s prices reduce by 20-30% to the current market rates.

“We want to give better quality racquets to our customers who are looking for full body graphite racquets at affordable prices. These are for players at a higher level, playing at academies and starting at a competitive level. With racquets being made in India, the consumers need not worry about import costs, or fluctuating exchange rates as they will get high quality Japanese craftsmanship and technology at affordable prices.” said Mr Vikramaditya Dhar, Managing Director, Sunrise Sports India Pvt Ltd.

The Japanese company, which set up a factory in Bengaluru in 2016 under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, was only producing aluminium T-joint racquets, used for beginners who play for fitness or recreation purpose. They aim to amplify the production of existing T-joint racquets from 1 million to 2.5-3 million per year.

Yonex and Sunrise have been committed to the promotion and development of badminton for over 60 years. SUNRISE has the largest direct sports distribution network in the Indian sub-continent. It has been supporting multiple state and district associations in the country to promote and develop the game from the grassroots to the highest level of badminton in the country. They are also the official equipment partner for the Badminton Association of India.

AMD EPYC Genoa breaks record and becomes the fastest CPU on PassMark Performance Charts

0

AMD EPYC Genoa CPUs have been added to the PassMark performance database, with the top EPYC 9654 chip taking the top spot by 30% over the previous record holder. AMD introduced its EPYC 9004 “Genoa” CPU lineup in November 2022, with up to 96 cores based on the 5nm Zen 4 core architecture and new features integrated.

The EPYC 9654, a 96-core and 192-thread juggernaut with a boost clock of up to 3.7 GHz, 384 MB of L3 cache, and a TDP of up to 400W, led the pack. This chip is suitable for 1P and 2P servers and includes all of the latest I/O support, such as 8-channel DDR5-4800 memory and 128 PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes.

This chip has been giving Intel’s flagship, the Sapphire Rapids Xeon 8490H, a run for its money, but it now has a new benchmark where it has established dominance, PassMark. Both AMD and Intel have taken top positions in this benchmark gen after gen, but Intel has mostly in single-threaded benchmarks while AMD has asserted complete dominance in multi-threaded benchmarks with its Threadripper and EPYC chips.

The AMD EPYC 9654 “Genoa” CPU has now become the fastest chip in this benchmark, securing 124,119 points a few months after launch.

This is the first CPU to break the 100K barrier, outperforming the previous record holder, the Threadripper PRO 5995WX, by 30%. Although the EPYC CPU has 50% more cores, it also has lower clock speeds than the Threadripper. As a result, a 30% increase is very commendable.

When comparing the EPYC Genoa CPU to the older EPYC Milan parts, the difference grows to 35-45%. This type of multi-threaded performance is only the beginning. AMD also plans to unveil its 4th Generation Threadripper CPUs this year, which could have up to 96 cores.

Maruti Suzuki launches its Arena Black Edition with attractive offers

0

Maruti Suzuki introduced the Nexa Black Edition earlier this month. This resulted in the Grand Vitara, Ignis, Ciaz, XL6, and Baleno being available in attractive Black colour and accessories. Maruti Suzuki has now introduced Arena vehicles. Black Edition will be available for the Brezza, Ertiga, Swift, Dzire, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, and even the S-Presso. The use of black on these vehicles creates an entirely new look. The Maruti Suzuki Arena Black Edition is available as an optional extra.

Interestingly, the Alto 800 does not receive this new feature because it is nearing the end of its life. Beginning with Maruti’s most affordable vehicles, the Alto K10, S-Presso, and WagonR, the company is offering an Xtra Edition Pack.

This package includes front and rear skid plates, wheel arch cladding and body moulding, a door visor, orange ORVMs, mats, a steering cover, a spoiler, an interior styling kit, an air inflator, a trunk organiser, and a lot more. The Xtra Edition Pack on the Alto K10 does not include the same accessories as the Ertiga or Brezza. The accessories available vary depending on the vehicle.

Maruti Suzuki offers the Swift Edition Package, which includes side moulding, door visors, seat covers, cushion, carpet, spoiler, and a few other extras.

The main cost contributors are the complete body kit and seat covers, bringing the total package cost to Rs. 24,990. Dzire receives nearly identical add-ons as Swift, minus the complete body kit, and adds chrome elements and an interior styling kit, bringing the total to Rs. 23,990.

Finally, the Brezza has the most extensive list of options and costs Rs. 35,990. It is the priciest of the bunch. We get a front splitter, rear diffuser, front and rear bumper extenders, window frame kit, wheel arch, body moulding, 3D mat, illuminated sill guard, ISK dashboard, illuminated logo, trunk organiser, and more for our money.

These packages are being offered by Maruti Suzuki to commemorate 40 years of mobility. Special Editions like these are a driving force in pushing sales because the customer receives extra features that make it more valuable. Tata Motors has been doing this for a while. This appears to be a new formula for increasing sales.

Jurgen Klopp has now managed 1,000 matches as a manager as he takes a dig at Arsene Wenger

0

Jurgen Klopp is a former German player who is now the manager of Liverpool since 2015. Klopp is one of the best managers right now in world football. He implements Gegenpressing, where the team, after losing possession, immediately attempts to win back possession, rather than falling back to regroup. He has described his sides as playing “heavy metal” football, in reference to their pressing and high attacking output.

Jurgen Klopp retired in 2001 from professional football after spending most of his playing career at Mainz 05. He was then appointed as the club’s manager and helped them to secure promotion to Bundesliga. He later signed for Borussia Dortmund and won the Bundesliga for two successive seasons 2010–11 and 2011–12 and also got them to the UEFA Champions League final, losing to Bayern Munich.

Klopp took over Liverpool in 2015 and has made them one of the top teams in the world with their high-intensity attacking display. He won the Premier League and the Champions League with the Reds. This season Liverpool has been struggling in the Premier League, however, Klopp has now managed to reach 1,000 matches as manager during Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp’s managerial career

2001–2008: Mainz 05
2008–2015: Borussia Dortmund
2015–Present: Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp took a dig at legendary manager Arsene Wenger when he was questioned about his 1,000th match as manager ending in a draw. He said: “I heard Arsene Wenger lost his 1,000th game 6-0 so I’m really happy that didn’t happen. He was referring to the match which dates back to 2014 when a Chelsea side led by Jose Mourinho hammered a struggling Arsenal 6-0.

Arnaut Danjuma to join Everton on loan until the end of 22/23

0

Arnaut Danjuma is all set to join Everton in the coming days. Villarreal have agreed a deal with the Premier League club for a straight loan until the end of the season with no option to buy

The player has landed in England and has completed his medical tests for the move. And soon, an official statement confirming his arrival on a temporary deal will be put forth by the Merseyside club.

Arnaut Danjuma to join Everton on loan

Danjuma had interest from several other teams across Europe, but has decided to return to the Premier League. He previously featured for Bournemouth for two seasons before making the move to Spain.

Frank Lampard’s side has had to endure their worst start to a Premier League campaign in 22/23. They are currently second last in the table on goal difference, ahead of Southampton who are at the bottom of the table. They recently lost 2-0 to West Ham in a very important fixture, which has seen their hopes of climbing out of the bottom take a blow.

The Dutchman has had a decent return in La Liga so far, and had interest from several big clubs. But, with his move to Everton until the end of the season, he perhaps is not as indispensable under Quique Setien as under Unai Emery.

Duvan Zapata of Atalanta was considered one of the options for Everton this season as well. But, Atalanta did not want to let the Colombian leave on loan and they insisted on a permanent transfer. Everton, as a result, had to bow out of negotiations for the physical centre-forward.

This season, Arnaut Danjuma has scored six goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, in 813 minutes. And it will be interesting to see if he can help solve Everton’s goalscoring woes to help keep them in the top flight.

OnePlus 10R becomes the best-selling smartphone on Amazon India

0

If you look closely at the Amazon Bestsellers in the smartphone category in India you will see OnePlus has done quite well with its variety of its models. Off late the Nord CE 2 Lite is doing quite well, however, we don’t know why the Nord CE 2 has been discontinued because it was really a good mid-range device.

OnePlus 10R seems to be India’s choice on Amazon

Still, as you know the models like OnePlus Nord 2T or OnePlus 10R are quite good in the mid-range segment and surprisingly both of them have made them into the Top 5 best-selling smartphones in India. The second place goes to Samsung M33 5G and Redmi A1 for the fifth but overall now Indians are going for the high-ticket price bracket.

OnePlus 10R becomes the best-selling smartphone on Amazon India

Thanks to the recent Amazon Great Republic Day sale, these OnePlus phones received extraordinary discounts, especially the OnePlus 10R was available for only ₹29,999, a really lucrative pricing for a phone of its calibre. Sporting a Dimensity 8100 Max inside it, the OnePlus 10R is a powerful smartphone with a big 120Hz AMOLED display, decent 50MP cameras and good battery life.

As we said in our review of this OnePlus phone, this is a high-performer and one of the best in the price segment with good thermals, its display is a major pro of the smartphone. Again its design is not the best and its camera that sometimes struggles during the night but it’s very practical with an ultra-fast charging speed and clean OxygenOS that gets timely updates.

Youssoufa Moukoko signs new Borussia Dortmund contract until 2026

0

Youssoufa Moukoko has signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund that extends his stay at the club until 2026. The youngster’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season, and he could have walked out as a free agent.

But despite the interest from Chelsea and Barcelona, he has signed an extension at the club that will keep him there for the next few years.

Youssoufa Moukoko signs new contract with Borussia Dortmund

“It’s no secret that I feel good at BVB,” Youssoufa Moukoko said. “I played in the youth teams, took my first steps in professional football here and now I’m ready to take the next step in my development together with the club. I feel the trust of the coaching staff and I have an environment here in which I can develop perfectly. Of course I was honored by the interest of other clubs, but ultimately it’s a heart decision. The fans have always supported me and I want to give something back to them and the club.”

The teenager graduated from the Dortmund academy and became their youngest goalscorer across several competitions upon making his debut.

This season, he has scored six and assisted six goals and has proved to be influential in big games, although he is only 18 years old. As a result, he is showing huge potential to develop into a star for the future.

While Dortmund could be open to bids from 2025, they have secured his services for the next two seasons by the looks of things. The Germany international could develop into a star if he can stay on the upward spiral, and keep delivering on a consistent basis. A couple years down the line, he could be the next big money sale for the black and yellow club.
