Jurgen Klopp is a former German player who is now the manager of Liverpool since 2015. Klopp is one of the best managers right now in world football. He implements Gegenpressing, where the team, after losing possession, immediately attempts to win back possession, rather than falling back to regroup. He has described his sides as playing “heavy metal” football, in reference to their pressing and high attacking output.

Jurgen Klopp retired in 2001 from professional football after spending most of his playing career at Mainz 05. He was then appointed as the club’s manager and helped them to secure promotion to Bundesliga. He later signed for Borussia Dortmund and won the Bundesliga for two successive seasons 2010–11 and 2011–12 and also got them to the UEFA Champions League final, losing to Bayern Munich.

Klopp took over Liverpool in 2015 and has made them one of the top teams in the world with their high-intensity attacking display. He won the Premier League and the Champions League with the Reds. This season Liverpool has been struggling in the Premier League, however, Klopp has now managed to reach 1,000 matches as manager during Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp took a dig at legendary manager Arsene Wenger when he was questioned about his 1,000th match as manager ending in a draw. He said: “I heard Arsene Wenger lost his 1,000th game 6-0 so I’m really happy that didn’t happen. He was referring to the match which dates back to 2014 when a Chelsea side led by Jose Mourinho hammered a struggling Arsenal 6-0.
