Oscar Bruzon’s Explosive Allegations Rock East Bengal: Inside the “Master” Controversy

East Bengal’s off-season has turned into a full-blown storm. Former head coach Óscar Bruzón, who guided the club to their first-ever ISL title, has gone public with a series of explosive allegations claiming a mysterious, unnamed “Master” figure systematically undermined his tenure and the club’s sporting project from within.

Who Is the “Master”?

Notably, Bruzón has not publicly named the individual he refers to as the “Master.” According to football insiders familiar with the club’s internal structure, the term is believed to point to an influential official or figure with informal access to players and decision-making, despite holding no official footballing role.

The Core Allegations

In a lengthy statement shared on social media, Bruzón laid out a detailed case against what he describes as a deliberate campaign to destabilize his coaching tenure:

• Blocked recruitment reform: Bruzón claims that Emami’s attempt to professionalise scouting and recruitment directly threatened an existing network of preferred agents and brokers tied to the “Master.”
• Deliberate scheduling issues: He alleges matches during Ramadan were scheduled at 3:00 PM despite four fasting players, potentially affecting performance.
• Information leaks: Bruzón says internal staff were feeding tactical and team-selection details to media outlets aligned with the “Master,” leading him to remove certain individuals from internal communication channels.
• Dressing room interference: He claims he had to physically remove the “Master” from the dressing room on multiple occasions after the individual reportedly criticized players and staff.
• False referee claims: Ahead of the season’s final match, Bruzón alleges he was told the referee would favor East Bengal — a claim he says proved entirely false.
• Orchestrated pressure campaigns: Following a last-minute draw against Kerala Blasters, he claims a dismissal protest was organized by people aligned with the same network.

The Club’s Response

East Bengal’s verified social media handle issued a statement urging fans to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation, while reaffirming respect for their former head coach — though the club did not name any individual or directly address Bruzón’s specific claims.

Quick Facts

The Bigger Picture

Bruzón frames these incidents not as isolated disputes but as part of a systemic pattern common in poorly governed football clubs — where informal networks around ownership can override professional football management. Whether the club or the individual in question will respond directly to these specific claims remains to be seen.
