OnePlus announced its plans to enter into the TV market. Earlier this week, the company revealed its upcoming TV which will be called OnePlus TV and unveiled the OnePlus TV logo.
The TV which has been in the works may launch soon. Here’s all that speculations suggest about the screen sizes, specifications India launch and availability of the OnePlus TV.
OnePlus TV design and manufacture
OnePlus has said that they want to bring “OnePlus’ premium flagship design” to the TV category.
There’s only so much you can do with a 16:9 panel, but it looks like the design is going to be a target for the company – but as yet, we’ve no idea what it will look like. They will cover 43, 55, 65 and 75-inches, which are broadly the main sizes that TVs are selling. These bluetooth certification codes also contain IN, CN and US – which look like country codes, suggesting variants for each market.
OLED screens for high-end models
Many believe that OnePlus will offer both LCD and OLED panels on the OnePlus TV. The LCD panels will be available on the lower-priced models whereas the OLED panel could be an option for the bigger sizes in select markets. Maybe the 75-inch variant or even a premium 55-inch variant would come with an OLED panel.
Smart Experience
Voice control, Integrated camera, Likely to be 4K HDR, Android-based. It’s a little early in the cycle to be talking about specs, but for a TV to be competitive, it really needs to be a 4K HDR panel.
OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, has said that it will “develop its own image processing chipsets” and sets the benchmark at Sony’s image quality. “We believe your TV has the potential to be so much more than where you watch your favorite shows,” says Lau in the original forum post, but the specifics fall into other interviews.
It’s all about seamless integration between phone and TV so that there’s no complication getting content from your phone to your TV.
TV as a smart home controller
Likely to have Google Assistant or Alexa integration, Smart home hub. OnePlus have confirmed that it won’t be starting from scratch with its platform, it’s going to use a “mainstream provider” so that the TV fits into existing ecosystems. Just like Oxygen OS for its phones, there will be unique Android-based software powering the OnePlus TV.
OnePlus seems keen to towards smart home system, seeing the TV as not only a TV but also as a smart home hub.
OnePlus TV may launch in late September
It is possible that the OnePlus TV and the OnePlus 7T may launch at the same time. It all depends on when the products are ready. The OnePlus 7T leaks too have surfaced, but so far the indication is that the OnePlus TV is definitely ready for the launch while the OnePlus 7T is still in the works.
With its new products, and particularly with the OnePlus TV, the company may want to capitalize on the festive season in India that is going to be in October. Hence, there is the talk of OnePlus TV launching in late September or early October. Initially, the launch for the OnePlus TV in India was around May, when the cricket season starts.
Finally how much will a OnePlus TV Cost?
OnePlus is saying that the TV will be premium. The company has aggressively priced before against established rivals like LG, Sony and Samsung. In an interview, Pete Lau described the TV as a “flagship killer” – hinting that the price will be designed to challenge the established rivals.
The truth is we really don’t know what the price yet, but we know that in India it will be available from Amazon and offline stores run by OnePlus. The model codes suggest India, China, and the US as launch locations – so it might be that.
