Curry Barker’s Obsession (2025), co-distributed by Blumhouse Productions, is the kind of horror film that sticks to your ribs. It asks one sinister question: what if the love you wished for became a supernatural curse? By the time the credits roll, the answer is brutal, tragic, and deeply human.
What Is Obsession About?
Bear (Michael Johnston) is a lonely music store employee hopelessly in love with his childhood friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette). He discovers a mysterious novelty toy — the One Wish Willow — and wishes for Nikki to love him more than anyone in the world. The wish works. Then everything falls apart.

How Does the Ending Unfold?
As Nikki’s obsession escalates into violence — she kills their mutual friend Sarah, and later shoots Ian — Bear learns the grim truth: the wish cannot be reversed. The One Wish Willows he collects are supernaturally impossible for him to break. His only way out is to die.
In the film’s harrowing climax, Bear swallows a bottle of pills. The two embrace one final time. As he dies, the wish is cancelled instantly. The real Nikki snaps back into herself, surrounded by the bodies of everyone she loved, screaming in grief and horror.
The twist: Nikki had also made a counter-wish — for Bear to love her just as intensely. For one nightmarish moment, both are trapped inside the same curse together before Bear’s overdose ends it all.
Did Bear Break the Curse? Yes — At the Ultimate Cost
Bear’s death does free Nikki. The supernatural possession vanishes the second he passes. But freedom comes soaked in grief — three of her closest friends are dead, and she must carry that weight forever. An alternate ending (later revealed by actress Inde Navarrette) had Nikki dying too, making the theatrical version only barely more hopeful.
The film’s message lands hard: you cannot manufacture genuine love. Bear’s wish didn’t just backfire — it replaced Nikki with a cursed version of herself entirely. Consent, control, and the ethics of desire sit at the film’s haunted core.
