Let’s be real — ₹68 crore worldwide in a debut week sounds decent on paper, but when you zoom out and compare it to where O Romeo needed to be, the numbers tell a more sobering story. Shahid Kapoor’s romantic drama had a target to beat, and it didn’t quite get there.

How Does It Compare to Shahid’s Last Film?
This is where things get interesting. Shahid’s previous Valentine’s release, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (TBMAUJ, Feb 2024), posted USD 2.80 million overseas in its opening week alone. O Romeo pulled in just USD 1.875 million — a notable shortfall of nearly USD 1 million.

The gap was widest in the USA, where O Romeo collected roughly half of what TBMAUJ managed. The UK and Australia–New Zealand markets also underperformed. Only the Middle East came somewhat close to benchmark figures.
TBMAUJ went on to nearly double its first-week India haul, finishing at ₹82.50 Cr nett domestically and USD 5.35 million overseas for a ₹143 Cr worldwide total. O Romeo is not tracking towards that kind of momentum. Current projections put it around ₹60–65 Cr nett in India and roughly half of TBMAUJ overseas — meaning the worldwide total could hover around the ₹100 Cr mark, give or take.
The bigger concern? O Romeo reportedly carried a higher production cost than TBMAUJ — which means it needed to outperform its predecessor to break even, not merely match it.

O Romeo: About the Film
Shahid Kapoor is one of Bollywood’s most bankable romantic leads, known for hits across genres from Jab We Met to Kabir Singh. O Romeo, directed by Siddharth Sengupta and co-starring Tripti Dimri, released in theatres on February 14, 2026 — a Valentine’s Day slot that clearly didn’t deliver the expected romantic surge at the box office.
