MediaTek and NVIDIA are reportedly set to unveil their eagerly awaited AI PC chip in the first half of next year, putting them at the forefront of the rapidly growing AI PC market. There have been talks of MediaTek creating a unique chip for such uses for quite some time, but the excitement went into overdrive when NVIDIA became a part of the effort.

Given Jensen Huang’s ties to Taiwanese corporations like MediaTek, most people anticipated an official announcement during Computex 2024. Nonetheless, fresh news states that MediaTek’s next-year market-ready AI PC SoC will compete against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite series.

More About the NVIDIA and MediaTek AI PC SoC

The new AI PC SoC from MediaTek, built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm process and based on ARM architecture, will likely be a real game-changer. With the participation of NVIDIA in the development, the new chip is certain to bring substantial improvements, especially in integrated graphics, which will likely make it stand out from the current options.

Given MediaTek’s competence in the area of creating optimal-performance mobile chips like Dimensity 9400 that simultaneously demonstrate excellent efficiency, the company ought to create a chip that is both strong and incredibly efficient power-wise for the AI PC market. Judging from the revealed information, the chip is now in design, with verification and sampling scheduled for the next quarter, which makes a 2025 release a likely possibility.

NVIDIA and media tech are clear to keep much information about this AI PC chip under wraps, which hints that its launch may come as a surprise. Intel and AMD have long faced issues in their corners, but MediaTek may never get as good an opportunity to really press its foot on the gas here — even at a time when manufacturing capacity is incredibly tight across the industry.

With the AI PC market projected to gain substantial traction in future years owing to the growing amalgamation of generative AI technologies, much excitement revolves around NVIDIA’s collaborative efforts with MediaTek. Still, the true impact of this chip will not be known until closer to launch.
