Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena both tested positive for Coronavirus

The world No. 1 tennis star Novak Djokovic organised a four-stage charity event hosted in Zadar, Croatia named ‘Adria Tour‘.

The final was scheduled in Zadar last weekend but was cancelled after Grigor Dimitrov’s tested positive for Coronavirus. The event has been full of controversies as there were no measures taken to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Now, Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena both have been tested positive for COVID-19. Djokovic said in a statement: “The moment we arrived in Belgrade we went to be tested. My result is positive, just as Jelena’s, while the results of our children are negative.”

Viktor Troicki said on Tuesday that he and his pregnant wife have both been diagnosed with the virus. Grigor Dimitrov tested positive before the finals due to which it was cancelled. Borna Coric played Dimitrov on Saturday in Zadar and he was also tested positive on Monday.

Djokovic has been put under criticism for organising such an event without taking any measures for the Coronavirus. The Adria Tour has been deemed as the hotspot for COVID-19. But, he has defended the idea of hosting the exhibition series.

He told: “It was all born with a philanthropic idea, to direct all raised funds towards people in need and it warmed my heart to see how everybody strongly responded to this.”

“We organized the tournament at the moment when the virus has weakened, believing that the conditions for hosting the Tour had been met. Unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality that we are still learning to cope and live with.”

“I am hoping things will ease with time so we can all resume lives the way they were. I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope that it will not complicate anyone’s health situation and that everyone will be fine.”

The Serbian star will now remain in self-isolation for the next 14 days and will have another test within 5 days. He has apologised to everyone who has been infected during this charity tournament.
