Nothing’s ‘Ear 1’ delayed, with plans to launch a bit later this summer

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei quit the company last year to become the founder and CEO of Nothing. Pei’s new company created a lot of buzz on social media with its unique name. The CEO also kept everyone on their toes in anticipation of Nothing’s first product. Pei later confirmed that the company would launch its first truly wireless earbuds (TWS) in June 2021.

Details about the upcoming TWS were teased and leaked multiple times. It was expected that the company would unveil its first product by the end of June. However, in case you are eagerly waiting for it, the wait could be longer.

Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, has announced that the company’s first launch is delayed. The TWS was expected to launch in June 2021. Pei did not state the reason behind the delay. The CEO confirmed that the Ear 1 TWS will launch later this summer. Pei stated that a “few things are left to finalise” and therefore the company decided to delay the launch.

Nothing’s ‘Ear 1’ delayed, with plans to launch a bit later this summer

The co-founder of OnePlus tweeted about the launch delay and said, “A month ago we announced that ear (1) would be revealed in June. We’re near the finish line and there are a few things left to finalize. For this reason @Nothing ear (1) will now come out a bit later this summer. Your support and patience mean the world to us. More updates soon”.

The company has remained tight-lipped so far about the product. The TWS is expected to have some key elements of Concept 1, which was teased in March 2021. The concept was designed based on three principles – Weightless, Timeless, and Effortless. “Design is still top secret but what we can tell you is that Ear 1 combines notes of transparency, iconic form, and refined functionality. It is the starting point that will define the artistry, confidence and craftsmanship that will carry our products and services for years to come,” Pei had said.

Ear 1 was previously listed on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website with the model number B181. The charging case’s batteries were also spotted on the BIS at a later date. These devices, listed as power banks, had the model number B181-C and B181-1.

The Ear 1 TWS earbuds are being designed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering, the Swedish consumer electronics company known for developing high-quality audio products for audiophiles. Nothing Ear 1 will face stiff completion from the likes of Apple Airpods, Samsung Galaxy Buds, and TWS earbuds from Sony and Beats.
