Not every Hollywood story starts on a red carpet. Himesh Patel’s began behind a newspaper counter in Cambridgeshire — and now he’s sharing the screen with Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s biggest film yet.

Who Is Himesh Patel?

Born in Cambridgeshire, England, to Gujarati parents, Himesh Patel grew up helping out at his family’s newsagent, often delivering papers even after landing his breakout role. That role came through EastEnders, the British soap opera, where he played Tamwar Masood from 2007 to 2016 — the launchpad for his entire acting career.

From TV Soaps to Global Stardom

Himesh’s real turning point arrived in 2019, when he starred as Jack Malik in Danny Boyle’s musical comedy Yesterday, earning international acclaim. Since then, he’s built a genuinely varied filmography — from the dark comedy Don’t Look Up to the drama Greedy People, and the acclaimed miniseries Station Eleven, which showcased his range in character-driven storytelling.

What Role Does He Play in The Odyssey?

Himesh reunites with director Christopher Nolan — having previously appeared in Tenet — this time playing Eurylochus, a key figure from Homer’s original Odyssey, in Nolan’s star-studded epic.
