Game-Changing Features That Set It Apart

Revolutionary Audio Capabilities

The ZR makes history as the world’s first camera to support 32-bit float audio recording with both built-in and external microphones. Powered by Nokia’s OZO Audio technology, it offers five pickup patterns – from super directional for interviews to stereo binaural for immersive ASMR content.

RED Color Science Integration

The Nikon Z cinema camera ZR features the exclusive R3D NE codec, bringing RED’s legendary color science to Nikon’s ecosystem. This means perfect color matching with RED cinema cameras and access to nine RED-curated cinematic imaging recipes through Nikon Imaging Cloud.

Professional-Grade Autofocus

Thanks to Nikon’s EXPEED 7 processor and AI-powered deep learning technology, the ZR can detect nine types of subjects automatically, tracking faces as small as 3% of the frame – perfect for capturing distant subjects with surgical precision.

Real-World Performance

The ZR’s fanless design with efficient heat dissipation allows for uninterrupted 125-minute recording sessions. Whether you’re shooting weddings, concerts, or extended interviews, this Nikon Z cinema camera won’t leave you hanging when the moment matters most.

The 16mm flange focal distance – the shortest among full-frame cameras – opens up incredible lens compatibility options, letting filmmakers leverage their existing glass investments.

Perfect for Modern Workflows

Cloud integration through Frame.io Camera to Cloud via NX MobileAir streamlines post-production workflows. LUT monitoring on the brilliant 4.0-inch display lets you preview color grading effects in real-time, making on-set decisions faster and more confident.

The Bigger Picture: Z Cinema Ecosystem

The ZR launches alongside the RED V-RAPTOR XE and the new ME-D10 shotgun microphone, creating a comprehensive cinema ecosystem. The innovative digital accessory shoe enables two-way communication with compatible accessories, eliminating cable clutter while providing direct power supply.

Bottom Line

The Nikon Z cinema camera ZR represents a paradigm shift in professional filmmaking gear. By combining Nikon’s optical excellence with RED’s cinema heritage, it delivers Hollywood-grade image quality in a form factor that won’t dominate your rig or drain your budget.

For filmmakers ready to elevate their craft without compromise, the ZR isn’t just a camera – it’s creative freedom in your hands.
