Nikki Bella’s WrestleMania 42 Fate Hangs by a Thread — Will She Compete on April 18 or 19?

WrestleMania week is here, and while millions of fans are buzzing with excitement, there’s one question that’s casting a shadow over Night 1 — will Nikki Bella make it to the ring? The answer, right now, is painfully simple: nobody knows.

Nikki Bella WrestleMania 42 — Situation Overview

How Did Nikki Bella Get Injured?

It happened on the March 27 edition of SmackDown, during a tag team match where Nikki and her sister Brie Bella faced off against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. Nikki suffered a sprained left ankle during the bout and has been sidelined ever since, with WWE repeatedly mentioning that she is actively rehabbing the injury.

The timing couldn’t be worse. The Bella Twins were booked for the Fatal Four-Way match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 — one of the most stacked title matches on the card.

What Happens If Nikki Can’t Compete?

According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, Nikki’s availability remains “too close to call” as WrestleMania week kicks off. WWE has a contingency plan ready — the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) are on standby to replace the Bella Twins if Nikki fails to receive medical clearance.

However, that substitution comes at a cost. The potential Asuka vs. Iyo Sky singles match — a dream bout for hardcore fans — has already been shelved from the Mania card to accommodate this backup scenario, and it stays off the card even if Nikki does compete.

The current Fatal Four-Way line-up features defending champions Nia Jax & Lash Legend, plus the teams of Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss and Bayley & Lyra Valkyria.

According to Wikipedia’s WrestleMania page, the event is WWE’s flagship annual spectacle — making any last-minute roster uncertainty a major talking point among the global fanbase.
