New Asus VivoBook Flip 14 becomes the first laptop to feature Intel DG1 Discrete graphics & Tiger Lake CPU

The Taiwanese OEM has no stop even in the middle of a pandemic as they become the first to implement Intel’s latest 10nm Tiger Lake CPUs on its laptops. Asus has brought the new ASUS VivoBook Flip 14 TP470EZ laptop featuring the Intel “Iris Xe Max” DG1 Discrete graphics, making it the first one actually to use Intel’s discrete graphics solution on a laptop.

It was coming and we knew that, however, Asus becomes the first to implement so on a thin and light 2-in-1 laptop. The VivoBook Flip 14 is a great laptop for productivity use and I use the AMD Ryzen 4000U version of it and overall with new Intel Tiger Lake CPUs and DG1 discrete graphics, this 2-in-1 also could be a great option.

You can either opt for Intel Core i7-1165G7 and Core i5-1135G7 processors with 4 cores and 8 threads along with 12 MB / 8 MB cache respectively. The boost clock speeds for the Core i7 version goes up to 4.70 GHz while the Core i5 operates with up to 4.20 GHz clock speeds.

The X-factor of the new Intel variant of the laptop will obviously be the discrete Intel DG1 GPU which should come with same 96 EUs or 768 cores as we see in the standard Iris Xe GPU. But the Intel discrete graphics comes with higher clocks and with 4 GB of VRAM and which should probably be GDDR6 based.

One can opt for either 8 GB or 16 GB LPDDR4X 4266 RAM while for storage you have up to 1 TB PCIe SSD with 32 GB Intel Optane memory. Overall in terms of performance, it is indeed stuffed with Intel goodness and could be your next productivity laptop.

The ASUS VivoBook Flip 14 TP470EZ laptop features 14-inch LED-backlit Full HD (1920 x 1080) 16:9 touch display with 82% screen-to-body ratio. Asus has made this Intel variant much more colour-accurate than the AMD one, covering 100% sRGB colour gamut. It comes with a full-size backlit keyboard, Intel WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.

For ports we have the new Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x HDMI, a MicroSD card reader and a Security lock. Like the AMD variant, this one too packs a 42 Wh 3-cells lithium-polymer battery that supports fast charging – 60% in 49 minutes.

As for now, the pricing has not been revealed yet, however, as this is a unique Intel laptop, it should be costlier than its AMD-powered brother significantly. Check the Asus product page from here.
