Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie to reportedly miss remainder of season due to partially torn ACL

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Brooklyn Nets were dealt a tough blow as Spencer Dinwiddie suffered a partially torn ACL in his right knee. The incident occurred on Sunday night during Brooklyn’s game against the Charlotte Hornets.

In the third quarter, Dinwiddie landed awkwardly in his right leg after driving to the rim against Bismack Biyombo. Immediately after, he fell to the floor and grabbed his right knee for a few seconds. Then, he was able to limp to the bench under his own power. He did not return to the game following the injury, and the Nets ruled him out with a knee strain while they waited for further evaluation.

Dinwiddie had no other structural damage to the knee and is expected to make a complete recovery before the start of the next season, per Charania. While Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert missed big portions of last season, seven-year guard Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points, 6.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds as the starting point guard for most of the games. He did not travel with the team to the Orlando bubble to play in the NBA restart.

After a strong start to their season, the loss of Dinwiddie is a huge blow. They started the season incredibly strong now that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have made their much-awaited debut together. Dinwiddie would have made the perfect complement to play alongside Irving, in the backcourt.

Dinwiddie is capable of getting to the rim at will. He can connect on the occasional three-pointer and knock down mid-range shots, despite his mediocre shooting averages from beyond the arc.
