Japan has given us some of Netflix’s most gripping originals — and the upcoming series Straight to Hell looks set to raise the bar even higher. Based on the real-life story of Kazuko Hosoki, Japan’s most notorious fortune-teller, this biographical drama is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about shows of 2026. If you loved The Naked Director or Alice in Borderland, this one is already on your watchlist — whether you know it yet or not.
What Is Straight to Hell About?
Straight to Hell spans six decades — from post-war Japan to the early 21st century — chronicling how one woman rose from poverty to become the undisputed “Queen of Ginza.” Kazuko Hosoki became a cultural phenomenon through her Six-Star Divination practice and her chilling catchphrase: “You’ll go to hell.”
The story is told through the eyes of ghostwriter Minori Uozumi, hired to pen Hosoki’s autobiography — and what unfolds is a psychological battle between two women. The series doesn’t shy away from darker themes: alleged fraud, criminal connections, and the dark side of fame all come into play.

Why You Should Be Excited
This isn’t just another biopic. Straight to Hell asks a genuinely unsettling question: Was she a savior or a devil? The production is backed by Netflix directly, with a Guinness World Record-holding subject, a stellar crew, and one of Japan’s most respected actresses at the helm. It’s the kind of show that doesn’t just entertain — it makes you think.
