What is this adaptation about?

This is not a remake of the beloved 1974–1983 NBC series starring Michael Landon. Netflix’s version is a fresh reimagining, drawing from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical novel — specifically the third book in the series.
