Before The Umbrella Academy or Sweet Tooth became household names, they were just comic options buried in a rights deal. Now, Netflix comic options for 2026 reveal six new indie graphic novels the streamer has quietly secured — and a few of them read like future genre hits waiting to happen.

What “Optioning” Actually Means

Before diving into each title, it’s worth clarifying: a comic option means Netflix has struck a deal with the publisher or rights holder to potentially adapt the work into film or TV. It’s not a greenlight or a confirmed release — just an early signal of where the streamer’s development money is heading. Netflix has declined to comment officially on any of these deals.

Geiger: A Post-Apocalyptic Protector

From Ghost Machine Productions, Geiger follows Tariq Geiger, a family man who survives a 2050 nuclear war and transforms into a radioactive protector of a wasteland version of Las Vegas. Notably, this isn’t the story’s first brush with adaptation — Paramount TV previously developed it with “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien attached before that deal lapsed, clearing the way for Netflix to step in.

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: A Twisted Breakout Hit

Described by critics as “Dexter meets Richard Scarry,” this IDW graphic novel follows Samantha, an unassuming bear who runs a hardware store by day and murders tourists in the woods by night. When another killer threatens to expose her, she has to hunt them down herself. Given its stylized premise, this one feels destined for Netflix’s adult animation slate.

The Night Eaters: Horror Meets Family Drama

From the creative team behind “Monstress,” this horror trilogy follows Chinese-American twins whose demon-hunter mother drags them into a supernatural nightmare after visiting their struggling restaurant. It blends generational family tension with genuine body horror — a combination that could translate well into live-action.

Radio Spaceman: Mike Mignola’s Pulpy Space Epic

Created by “Hellboy” mastermind Mike Mignola, this steampunk throwback follows a remotely piloted robotic spaceman sent on a rescue mission to a hostile alien planet. Mignola’s heavily shadowed, stylized art style makes this a strong candidate for a high-budget animated feature.

The Infinite Horizon: A Modern Odyssey

Written by Gerry Duggan with art from Phil Noto, this sci-fi retelling of Homer’s “The Odyssey” follows a soldier’s harrowing journey home across a collapsed, chaotic world. It’s being eyed as either a blockbuster film or a prestige limited series.

Invisible Emmie: Family-Friendly Coming-of-Age

Rounding out the list is this popular middle-grade graphic novel about two very different middle schoolers whose lives collide after an embarrassing note goes public — a natural fit for Netflix’s family programming push.
