Netflix Adds ASL Support Titles: What Families Need to Know

Big news for signing families — Netflix just partnered with SignUp Media to bring American Sign Language interpretation to dozens of its most popular Kids & Family titles, marking one of the platform’s biggest accessibility pushes yet.

Netflix Shows: Overview

A quick note: with 89 titles in the list, giving each one its own detailed write-up would balloon this into an unreadable mega-post — and for many of them, there simply isn’t more context to add beyond the title itself. So here’s a breakdown by category with the standout titles worth knowing about.

How the Feature Works

Instead of a hardcoded ASL track, SignUp Media works through a Chrome extension that overlays a synced interpreter window directly on top of your Netflix player. You can drag it, resize it, or pop it out — essentially a YouTube video of a Deaf performer signing along in real time with the show.

Kids Movies & Specials (Notable Picks)

This is the largest category, including modern favorites like KPop Demon Hunters, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Paddington in Peru, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Klaus, and Over the Moon, alongside nostalgic titles like Matilda, Stuart Little, and Tom and Jerry.

Kids Series (Notable Picks)

Includes long-running hits like Cocomelon, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Pokémon Horizons (all three seasons), Octonauts, and Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Adult Animation

Just one entry so far: Arcane.

Live Action Series

A short but notable list — Stranger Things, Wednesday, Heartstopper, and The Diplomat.

Movies (Notable Picks)

This category features a genre mix, from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Frankenstein to Bollywood titles like PK, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Laapataa Ladies.

Casting Authenticity Matters

Netflix emphasized that every hour of ASL interpretation takes three to four hours of preparation, with performers studying tone, pacing, and show-specific vocabulary. The company has also cast Deaf performers to match on-screen characters authentically — for example, an Asian Deaf performer for Wish Dragon and a Cuban Deaf performer for Vivo.
