Narnia First Look: Netflix Finally Cracks Open The Wardrobe On Greta Gerwig’s Epic

After years of rumours, delays and silence, Netflix has given fans their first real glimpse of Greta Gerwig’s Narnia — and it arrived without warning.

What Netflix Dropped on Narnia?

The streamer surprise-released two things on X: a brand new animated logo for the film, followed by a behind-the-scenes still from the set.

In the BTS photo, Gerwig stands bundled in a heavy tweed coat, watching a take unfold beside an ARRI camera. Behind her sit vintage cars, extras in turn-of-the-century costume, and what looks like a fully practical London street set — the kind of old-school craft that fans have been quietly hoping for.

These are the first official marketing assets released for the film, currently titled Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

The Test Screening Chatter

Here’s where it gets interesting. Reports point to a private test screening scheduled in Nashville later this month, inviting audiences to experience the creation of Narnia and Gerwig’s unlimited imagination.

The questionnaire sent to attendees asked whether invitees had enjoyed a curious mix of films: The NeverEnding Story, Labyrinth, Wicked, Barbie, Wonka and Into the Spider-Verse. That combination lines up with earlier rumours of rock-and-roll influences and a heavy emphasis on practical creature effects.

Reactions so far? Mixed. Earlier screenings in New York and New Jersey reportedly drew divided responses, with “boring” surfacing in some feedback — though many viewers also called it strikingly faithful to the books.

Worth remembering: these are unfinished cuts with temporary visual effects. Testing a CGI-heavy fantasy epic this early is exactly how filmmakers find the problems while there’s still time to fix them.

What Comes Next?

With the logo and first look out, a teaser trailer feels like the obvious next step. February 2027 is still a long wait — but the wardrobe door is finally open.
