Napoli have taken a significant step in strengthening their defense ahead of the new Serie A season by securing personal terms with Bologna centre-back Sam Beukema. The Dutch defender, one of the key figures in Bologna’s memorable 2024-25 campaign, is now poised for a major move to Naples as the Partenopei prepare an official bid exceeding €30 million.

With Antonio Conte taking charge, defensive reinforcements have become a priority, and Beukema has emerged as a primary target for the Napoli manager. The club’s intent, coupled with the player’s willingness to make the switch, sets the stage for a potentially pivotal transfer.

Beukema Keen on Napoli Switch

Sam Beukema, currently contracted to Bologna until 2027, has openly communicated his desire to join Napoli, signaling a decisive shift in the transfer saga. Having spent just a season with the Rossoblu, the 26-year-old played a vital role in their successful Coppa Italia triumph earlier this year.

Despite Bologna’s determination to retain the Dutch defender at the Stadio Dall’Ara, the Serie A champions remain confident of luring him away. The Italian giants are preparing an official proposal in the region of €30-35 million, with potential add-ons included, to meet Bologna’s valuation.

Napoli’s consistent pursuit over the past three months has clearly impressed Beukema, making the Partenopei his preferred destination. His motivation to take the next step in his career aligns with Napoli’s ambitions under Conte’s new leadership.

Conte’s Defensive Blueprint

Beukema is not just another signing; he is a specific request by Antonio Conte, who is eager to reinforce Napoli’s backline with both quality and experience. Conte’s tactical systems heavily rely on solid central defenders, and Beukema fits the profile with his composure, aerial prowess, and tactical discipline.

“Beukema is a direct request from Napoli coach Antonio Conte,” sources confirmed, underlining the Italian tactician’s strong influence on transfer decisions. Conte’s desire to shape the squad according to his philosophy has already led Napoli to pursue defensive additions aggressively.

This move is part of a broader defensive overhaul at Napoli. Reports have also confirmed that Empoli’s promising youngster Luca Marianucci will undergo his medical with Napoli next Tuesday, further showcasing the club’s commitment to securing defensive talent for both immediate impact and future potential.

Stellar Campaign with Bologna

Sam Beukema arrives at this juncture after an outstanding season with Bologna, having featured in 47 matches across all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign. His contributions were instrumental in Bologna’s historic Coppa Italia success, marking their resurgence on the domestic stage.

His consistent performances in Serie A have elevated his profile, drawing attention not only from Napoli but also from scouts across Europe. However, it is Napoli’s persistence, combined with the persuasive presence of Antonio Conte, that appears to have convinced Beukema of his next career destination.
