Looking to maximize Drampa’s potential in Pokémon Legends Z-A? This gentle dragon from Generation VII packs a serious punch when properly trained. As a dual Normal/Dragon-type available in Wild Zone 19, Drampa offers unique typing advantages that make it a late-game powerhouse worth adding to your competitive roster.

Whether you’re building for story mode or competitive battles, this comprehensive guide will help you optimize Drampa and its Mega Evolution for maximum effectiveness. Let’s dive into the optimal build recommended by trainers and The Pokémon Company.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Optimal Drampa Moveset

Move Slot	Move Name	Type	Purpose
Slot 1	Calm Mind	Psychic	Stat booster (+Sp.Atk, +Sp.Def)
Slot 2	Hyper Voice	Normal	STAB main attack
Slot 3	Draco Meteor	Dragon	STAB heavy hitter
Slot 4	Fire Blast	Fire	Steel-type coverage

Calm Mind serves as your setup move, boosting Drampa’s already impressive Special Attack stat while simultaneously increasing Special Defense. This transforms Drampa into a bulky special attacker that can withstand prolonged battles.

Hyper Voice provides consistent STAB damage with its Normal-typing, hitting through substitutes and dealing reliable damage to most opponents. Draco Meteor delivers devastating Dragon-type STAB damage, though its stat-reducing drawback means you’ll want to use it strategically.

Fire Blast rounds out the coverage by handling Steel-types that resist both Normal and Dragon moves. If your team already counters Steel effectively, consider substituting this with moves that target Fighting, Fairy, or Ice-types—Drampa’s main weaknesses. Perfect Nature: Bold

Recommended Nature: Bold (+Defense, -Attack)

Drampa’s stat distribution favors special attacks, making its physical Attack stat expendable. The Bold nature sacrifices Attack to boost Defense, addressing Drampa’s primary vulnerability to physical moves. While Calm Mind handles special bulk, this nature ensures better overall survivability.

Strategic Battle Tips

Drampa excels as a slow, bulky special attacker. Lead with Calm Mind to set up, then sweep with boosted Hyper Voice or Draco Meteor. The low Speed stat means you’ll typically move second, so prioritize bulk to survive initial attacks.

Against Fairy-types (Drampa’s biggest threat), switch out immediately. Ice and Fighting-types also pose serious problems, so having counter-picks in your team is essential. For comprehensive team-building strategies, visit our Pokémon coverage.

The Normal/Dragon typing provides immunity to Ghost moves while offering broad neutral coverage. This makes Drampa excellent for balanced teams needing a reliable special attacker that doesn’t fold under pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I catch Drampa in Pokémon Legends Z-A?

Drampa appears in Wild Zone 19 during the late game. This dragon becomes available after significant story progression, so focus on advancing the main campaign before hunting for it. Its late-game availability means you’ll likely use it primarily for post-game content or competitive battles rather than the story campaign.

Q: Is Mega Drampa worth the investment compared to regular Drampa?

Absolutely! The stat boosts from Mega Evolution significantly improve Drampa’s viability in competitive scenarios. The +25 increase to Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense transforms it from a decent special attacker into a genuine threat. The 360 Mega Shards investment pays dividends in battle, especially when combined with the Bold nature and Calm Mind setup strategy outlined in this guide.
