Motorola’s ThinkPhone with SD 8+ Gen 1 is announced

It’s true what it says on the tin: the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola is a smartphone developed by Motorola that resembles a Lenovo ThinkPad notebook.

The ThinkPhone’s 6.6-inch OLED screen has a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 hertz. Additionally, the display supports HDR10+.

A Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is housed inside, along with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and your pick of 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage.

The ThinkPhone is available in any colour as long as it is Carbon Black, but it is important to note that this is not your typical normal black phone.

It comes with a unique red key that can be customized to do a variety of functions, like opening a field or business app or the Walkie Talkie app through Microsoft Teams. While the frame is made of aircraft-grade aluminium, the back panel is made of lightweight aramid fiber, which is said to be stronger than steel. Gorilla Glass Victus is used to cover the front. A unique ThinkPhone logo completes the rear.

The ThinkPhone is also IP68 and MIL-STD 810H certified, so it can withstand drops of up to 1.25 meters and 30-minute swims in water up to 1.5 meters deep.

The 5,000mAh battery of the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola (try saying that three times quick) supports 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. In the box, you will find the required wired charger.

The Lenovo ThinkPhone’s 50MP f/1.8 main camera has pixel bins that are four to one, yielding 2.0 m pixels, and it also has an LED flash. Both PDAF and OIS are present in this camera. A 13MP ultrawide with Macro Vision at f/2.2 is placed next to it. A 32MP selfie camera with autofocus is on the other end of the spectrum.

ThinkPhone

Beyond simple brand-building, the ThinkPhone serves other purposes. Based on Motorola’s Ready For, it offers true integration with ThinkPad notebooks from Lenovo, including Think 2 Think connectivity. You can drag and drop files, share notifications, use the phone as a webcam, and launch any Android app on the Windows laptop’s screen by syncing the ThinkPhone with your ThinkPad. You can even copy text, photographs, and documents and transfer them, as well.

Microsoft 365, Outlook, and Teams apps will already be installed on the ThinkPhone.

The Moto KeySafe is a standalone processor that adds an extra layer of protection; it will store cryptographic keys, PINs and passwords, and other sensitive data in a tamper-resistant setting.

The Lenovo ThinkPhone for business clients can also be remotely configured by IT administrators using Moto OEMConfig or Moto Device Manager.

The Motorola Lenovo ThinkPhone will soon be available in the US, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia, and a few Asian nations. As a B2B device, Lenovo hasn’t yet disclosed the price, so don’t expect to find it in your neighbourhood electronics shop.
