Most Man of the Match awards won by players in the top 5 leagues since 2009

While Europe’s top 5 leagues are full of superstars and world-class players but only a handful of players have been maintaining the same level for the last 12 years.

The player who leads the list is not surprising at all, it is Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi has won 222 Man of the match awards since the 2009/10 season which is not surprising as it was the Messi began to perform at the level of his actual potential. Moreover out of the 222 man of the match awards Lionel Messi won 22 man of the match awards this season, Astonishing for a player at the age of 34.

Eden Hazard – Premier League

The Premier League is regarded as the most competitive league in the world and even though Eden Hazard has left the Premier League for Real Madrid back in 2019. Eden Hazard has won 62 Man of the Match awards during his stay in the premier league.

Marco Reus – Bundesliga

Marco Reus has been one of the best players in Germany for the past 5 years and has won 48 Man of the Match awards in his time in the Bundesliga. Had not been for injuries he could have reached the level he was truly capable of.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a well-travelled and one of the best strikers football has ever seen, although he has shone in every country he played in however the best time in his career appears to be his time in Paris winning 48 man of the match award. And seeing that left more than 5 years ago now and is still has the highest number of man of the match awards in Ligue 1.

Alejandro Gomez – Serie A

The Argentinian midfielder Alejandro Gomez also known as Papu Gomez has been with the Serie A side Atalanta since 2014 and had been a vital part of their team until he moved to Sevilla last season. In his time in Italy, he has amassed 38 Man of the match awards.
