The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina isn’t just the biggest match on the football calendar — it has become one of the most inaccessible sporting events ever staged. Days out from kickoff at MetLife Stadium, the cheapest way in costs $7,380, and it’s not even close to the pitch.

Most Expensive World Cup Final Ticket Market: The Price Ladder

What FIFA calls Category 2 seating, released at the last minute to meet demand that has “exceeded any forecast,” now serves as the entry point for fans. Above that, the numbers only climb.

Ticket Tier	Price Range
Category 2 (cheapest available)	From $7,380
Category 1	Up to $19,995
Front lower-bowl sections	Up to $32,970
Official hospitality package	~$34,500 per person
Resale market (FIFA-authorized)	$7,440 – $11.5 million

When Tickets Become an Investment Product

The resale market has produced surreal outliers — four lower-bowl seats behind a goal were once listed at nearly $2.3 million each, with a full package topping $9 million. FIFA’s own variable pricing means a Category 1 seat that started sales around $6,730 can now sell for nearly five times that.

Paid Three Times Over

Perhaps most striking is FIFA’s revenue model: it earns from the original sale, then charges a 15% commission to the seller and another 15% to the buyer on every resale transaction — collecting three separate payments on a single ticket. It’s legal under US resale laws, but it has drawn scrutiny.

Regulators Are Watching

A Frankfurt Regional Court recently ordered FIFA to disclose commercial resellers’ identities to German buyers, following a challenge from resale platform Ticombo. Separately, New York Attorney General Letitia James opened a formal investigation on May 27 into FIFA’s ticketing practices at MetLife Stadium, after fans complained of receiving seats different from what they paid for. Full details on FIFA’s ticketing policy are available on the official FIFA World Cup 2026 site.
