This year’s game awards saw a lot of fantastic games announced, but the new Wonder Woman game has piqued my interest. It will be a single-player open-world action game that will feature an original story set in the DC Universe and will allow players to take on the role of Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and modern-day humans.
We don’t know much about it yet because it’s being developed by Monolith Productions, Wonder Woman is one of my favourite superheroes, and the game appears to be based on the costume from the Gal Gadot films, which in my opinion is one of the best superhero movies ever made to date.
Wonder Woman will be an open-world game based on Monolith’s Nemesis system, in which the Amazon Princess is summoned to Themyscira to face a new threat and must “unite old enemies and forge new bonds,” as her mother Hippolyta tells her in the trailer.
Furthermore, the Nemesis System from the Middle-Earth series will be used in this Wonder Woman game, allowing players to form deep bonds with both enemies and allies as they progress through the game. This sounds like it could be a superhero game unlike any other we’ve seen.
David Hewitt, Studio Head of Monolith Productions, teased how the Nemesis System will be used in Wonder Woman’s storytelling to “push the open-world genre forward” by combining cutting-edge action with inventive narratives in a press release for the film.
The official description for the game reads:
“She will fight to unite the warriors of two worlds. You are Wonder Woman. In development by Monolith Productions, creators of the critically acclaimed Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War, this open-world action-adventure game will feature the beloved DC Super Hero, Wonder Woman. The single-player open-world action game will introduce an original story set in the DC Universe and allow players to become Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world. Powered by the Nemesis System, gamers will forge deep connections with both enemies and allies as they progress from a heroic fighter into a proven leader.”
“Wonder Woman is one of the most iconic DC Super Heroes of all time, standing for truth, justice, and equality for over 80 years, and we’re proud to be creating an exciting new gaming chapter in this legendary character’s legacy,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “The talented team at Monolith Productions is building upon their strengths to bring players a Wonder Woman game that is unlike anything they have ever experienced.”
“At Monolith Productions, we believe in the power of player-driven storytelling to unite people. The stories our players share inspire us every day, and we are honoured to take players on a unique personal journey, driven by the values embodied in Wonder Woman,” added David Hewitt, Vice President, Studio Head, Monolith Productions. “The Nemesis System raised the bar for player-driven storytelling and we’re excited to push the open-world genre forward, combining cutting-edge action with inventive narratives to create a Wonder Woman game everyone will want to play.”
