The Mega Evolution wave continues to dominate Pokémon UNITE! After the successful launches of Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X, two powerhouse Pokémon are set to make their debut this December. Here’s everything trainers need to know about Mega Gyarados arriving December 5th and Mega Charizard Y launching December 19th.

Pokémon Unite Release Overview

Pokémon	Release Date	License Type
Mega Gyarados	December 5, 2025	Separate Mega Evolution License
Mega Charizard Y	December 19, 2025	Separate Mega Evolution License

What Makes These Mega Evolutions Special?

Unlike their standard counterparts, these Mega Evolution Pokémon are separate licenses from Gyarados and Charizard’s regular unite licenses. This means you can actually have both the regular and Mega versions on the same team—a game-changing strategic advantage!

When you activate their Unite Move, these Pokémon temporarily Mega Evolve with significantly enhanced stats and abilities. According to the official Pokémon UNITE website, Mega Evolution adds an exciting dimension that can completely shift battle momentum.

The Mega Evolution System Explained

Here’s how it works: Each Mega Evolution Pokémon comes with their Mega Stone as a fixed held item, leaving you with only two item slots for customization. They’re also restricted to a single moveset, making them more specialized than regular licenses.

This new licensing structure was introduced in September 2025, allowing unprecedented team flexibility. You can now strategize with both forms simultaneously!

Why This Matters for Your Gameplay

The addition of these Mega Pokémon is part of a larger celebration leading up to Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s October 2025 release. With four Mega Evolution Pokémon promised by year’s end, December completes this exciting roster expansion.

Whether you’re a competitive player or casual trainer, these Mega Evolutions offer fresh tactical options. The temporary power surge from Mega Evolution can turn losing battles into victories when timed perfectly.

How to Get Them

Both licenses will be available through special in-game events, similar to previous Mega Evolution releases. Players can earn them by completing missions or purchase them from the Unite Battle Committee shop using Aeos coins or gems.
