There are goodbyes that feel expected. And then there are goodbyes that take the breath clean out of you — even when you’ve had months to prepare.
On May 24, 2026, Mohamed Salah walked out of Anfield for the very last time in a Liverpool shirt. The noise was deafening. The tears were real. And the man at the centre of it all — the Egyptian King — gave Anfield one final, fitting send-off.
Mohamed Salah at Liverpool — The Defining Numbers
| Stat | Detail |
|---|---|
| Final Match | Liverpool 1–1 Brentford, Anfield |
| Liverpool Appearances | 441 |
| Liverpool Goals | 257 (3rd all-time at the club) |
| Premier League Appearances | 300 — only 2nd African ever |
| Previous African 300-app record | Kolo Touré (304) |
| PL Golden Boots | 4 |
| PFA Player of the Year | 3 times (2018, 2022, 2025) |
| Major Trophies at Liverpool | 9 (including 1x UCL, 2× PL) |
| Years at Liverpool | 9 seasons (2017–2026) |
The Milestone Nobody Saw Coming
In what turned out to be his final Premier League match at Anfield, Mohamed Salah reached his 300th Premier League appearance — becoming only the second African player in the history of English football to reach this landmark. Previously, only defender Kolo Touré had managed this feat with 304 Premier League games.
Of those 300 appearances, Salah made just 6 for Chelsea and a remarkable 294 in the red of Liverpool — the shirt that transformed him from a talented winger into an immortal.
Nine Years. Nine Trophies. One Tearful Goodbye.
Both Salah and Andy Robertson started their last home game together after nine years at the club — winning nine major trophies side by side, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. Salah departs as Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer with 257 goals in 441 appearances, while Robertson delivered 69 assists in 377 games from left-back, redefining the role entirely in Jürgen Klopp’s system.
Salah himself said it best when he announced his departure earlier this season: “I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit.”
That’s not a footballer speaking. That’s a man who genuinely fell in love with a city.
The Anfield Atmosphere Nobody Will Forget
Liverpool’s season ended with a 1-1 draw against Brentford — but the result was almost irrelevant. Both Salah and Robertson received tributes before kick-off as the Anfield crowd roared its appreciation, with banners celebrating their achievements visible across the stands throughout the evening.
It was the kind of occasion that transcends football — a community saying thank you to someone who gave everything. According to Liverpool FC’s official website, Salah retires as the third-highest goalscorer in the club’s 138-year history — behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. In a club that has produced Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, and Robbie Fowler, that placement is extraordinary.
Nine years. 257 goals. Nine trophies. 300 Premier League appearances. Mohamed Salah didn’t just play for Liverpool — he became Liverpool. And Anfield will never, ever stop singing his name.
