Modha Rathri 2 Confirmed: Rishikanth and Anishma’s Wedding-Night Comedy Gets a Sequel

When a small film becomes a sleeper hit, fans always hope for more. Modha Rathri has delivered on that hope, because director Raja Karuppasamy has confirmed a sequel. The charming comedy drama starring Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar is clearly not done with its newlyweds yet.

Modha Rathri 2 : Overview

What the Director Said?

In a chat with SS Music, Raja Karuppasamy confirmed that a sequel is in the works, joking that they need to make a living. The more important news is that Part 2 will pick up directly from the first film. The story continues with the same characters, and there’s no fresh cast or reboot. He didn’t share anything further and said more details would come out in time.

The Story That Won Hearts

The original follows Maruthanyagam (Maruthu) and Muthuselvi (Muthu), two people pushed into an arranged marriage while both are still in love with other people. Maruthu returns from Dubai after five years, still grieving a former girlfriend. Muthu doesn’t want the marriage at all and even tries to escape on their wedding night. What follows is a mix of awkwardness, humour and honesty as the pair meet her boyfriend, face angry families and, with a local priest’s help, begin to understand each other’s heartbreak.

Why a Small Modha Rathri 2 Struck a Chord?

Modha Rathri became a sleeper hit, meaning it grew through word of mouth rather than big publicity. Debutant directors rarely get that kind of response, and the film kept attracting viewers after its OTT debut. Relatable characters and gentle humour seem to have done the work.

Rishikanth’s Big Year

It’s also a strong period for Rishikanth. He recently took the lead in Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, alongside Sananth and Keerthy Suresh. With this sequel confirmed, his run of memorable roles looks set to continue.

What to Do Until Part 2 Arrives?

If you haven’t seen the first film, you have time to catch up on Netflix before the sequel’s details drop. For more South cinema news, OTT picks and release updates, keep exploring Technosports.
