Michael Ballack’s 18-year-old son, Emilio passes away in a bike accident

Emilio Ballack, the son of former Chelsea and Bayern Munich footballer Michael Ballack lost his life in an accident in Portugal. Emilio was 18, and fell victim to a quad bike accident on holiday.  

Portuguese channel TVI24 were the first to break the news, and stated that he was found dead on the scene. The cause for his death is currently deemed an accident itself. He was driving on an uneven piece of land near Troia, where the family has a mansion. The bike rolled over and fell on top of him, severely injuring him in the process and ultimately leading to his demise. 

The accident occurred at 2 am local time, and despite the fire brigade and emergency services arriving at the scene, they could do nothing to help him. According to reports, psychologists also arrived to help the family deal with the tragic news. Chelsea were one of the first to react to the news, offering their condolences to their former player: 

“Everybody associated with Chelsea Football Club is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Emilio Ballack at the terribly young age of 18,” Chelsea’s tweet read.

“All our thoughts are with his father Michael and his family at this sad time.”

Emilio was born in 2002 and is a year younger than Michael Ballack’s oldest son, Louis. Ballack’s youngest son, Jordi is three years younger than Emilio. The footballing world offers its thoughts and condolences to the family in these difficult times.
