MediaTek has officially announced that its Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chipsets are now optimized to support Google’s Gemini Nano, a step, in making AI more accessible on a range of smartphones. Currently premium devices such as the Google Pixel 8 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series benefit from Google’s mobile-optimized LLM, and Gemini Nano. This technology enables on-device AI functions like Smart Reply and summaries in the Recorder app.

With this partnership more developers and device manufacturers will have the opportunity to provide generative AI features to users. MediaTek and Google are working together to create tools that make it easier to integrate Gemini Nano into applications. Initially, the Dimensity 9300 and 8300 SoCs will benefit from this collaboration with an APK release expected soon.

An important aspect of this collaboration is that once these new AI-driven features are implemented they will operate directly on the device of relying on cloud computing as before. This transition brings advantages such as improved performance, enhanced privacy, offline capabilities, and cost savings. Reduced reliance on cloud services offers benefits, for everyone involved.

The Dimensity 9300 chip is set to have an impact on MediaTek’s goal of securing a 35% market share this year. It drives devices such, as the Vivo X100 series and the OPPO Find X7 (excluding Ultra) making it known as one of the smartphone SoCs available. This is why MediaTek has chosen to focus on integrating it with Gemini Nano.

Meanwhile, the Dimensity 8300, catering to the mid-range 5G smartphone market, brings generative AI capabilities within reach for a broader audience. Both chipsets were initially unveiled with a commitment to delivering state-of-the-art AI experiences directly to users. This collaboration with Google underscores that commitment, firmly placing the potential of Generative AI within reach for consumers.
