MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Spotted on Geekbench with Cortex-X9 Cores

MediaTek’s next-gen flagship processor, likely to be named Dimensity 9500, has surfaced for the first time on Geekbench under the model number MT6993. The listing posted by reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station sheds light on the chip’s design and performance aspects.

If the benchmark data is accurate, the Dimensity 9500 has a tri-cluster CPU setup, with one ultra-core (Travis), three performance cores (Alto), and four efficiency cores (Gelas) clocked at 3.23GHz, 3.03GHz and 2.23GHz. According to the report, the chip will be the introduction of MediaTek’s new all-core CPU architecture that is based on the Cortex-X930 architecture.

Travis and Alto are rumored to have been built around Arm’s newest Cortex-X9 cores with SME (Scalable Matrix Extension) support, and also Gelas is said to be derived from A7 series core. This represents a notable shift from the Cortex-X4 layout used in the Dimensity 9400. The chipset is fabricated using TSMC’s advanced N3P 3nm node, focusing on both performance gains and power efficiency.

On the graphics side, the Dimensity 9500 is equipped with a Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU, featuring a new Immortalis-Drage architecture. It brings improved ray tracing capabilities and better energy efficiency. Currently, the GPU is clocked at just 1MHz for initial testing, which explains the modest Geekbench GPU score of 15,717. However, MediaTek is expected to finalize its GPU tuning in the coming weeks. The chip is rumored to break the 4-million mark in AnTuTu benchmarks once fully optimized.

Additional specifications include support for up to 4-channel LPDDR5x RAM at 10,667Mbps and UFS 4.1 storage with a 4-lane interface. The chipset also features 16MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system-level cache, improving performance in multitasking and data handling. An official launch is anticipated in September, with smartphones like the Vivo X300 series and Oppo Find X9 series likely to be among the first to feature this powerful new chip.
