MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chip will be faster than the Dimensity 8000

MediaTek Dimensity 920 and Dimensity 810 chipsets launched

MediaTek is all set to launch an update to last year’s Dimensity 8000. The chip will be called the Dimensity 8100 and it will carry support for higher frequencies and is likely to debut on the 1st of March.

The information comes from the reputed tipster Digital Chat Station who claims that the MediaTek 8100 is being launched due to the predecessor being on the more ‘conservative’ side. The Dimensity 8000 comprises 4x Cortex-A78 (2.75GHz) and 4x Cortex-A55 (2.0GHz) CPU cores.

Going by the name, the chip belongs to the upper mid-range unit which makes such frequencies slow. The Dimensity 9000 for comparison purposes, peaks out at 3.05GHz. And on top of that, the Dimensity 8000 also uses older ARMv8 designs.

While it is highly unlikely that the Dimensity 8100 will bring any changes design-wise over the 8000, the frequency boosts should result in better performance.

Manufacturers should be aware of this and DCS says that some have even replaced their Dimensity 8000 orders with Dimensity 8100. A new device with the chip is expected to launch as early as March next year, which is around the same time the Dimensity 8000 devices were earlier expected to launch.

This makes it a strong possibility that MediaTek actually wants to replace the 8000 with the 8100 rather than selling them together, but that is merely based on speculation.

As per the AnTuTu benchmark score of the Dimensity 8000 that reached 7,50,000 surpassing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 which scored at 700,000 points. The MediaTek Dimensity 8100 will naturally be better.
