Marcus Thuram Inter Milan done deal: Contract signed until 2028

Marcus Thuram Inter Milan transfer: After interest from Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and AC Milan for a transfer, Marcus Thuram has decided to sign for Inter Milan as a free agent. The France international was offered a contract by AC Milan, and was close to accepting it. But, their rivals made a better proposal and he is now on his way to the other side of the Milano divide.

The striker has accepted a five-year contract until 2028 with a salary of €6.5 million per season, plus a signing-on fee as he will be making the move as a free agent. The formalities have now been completed for the transfer, and he will be leading the line alongside Lautaro Martinez next season.

Marcus Thuram Inter Milan transfer complete: What will he bring to the table?

The Nerazzurri moved quick to seal the transfer of the striker, who was likely to join their rivals. He is expected to be the strike partner for Lautaro Martinez and the replacement for Edin Dzeko, who has signed for Fenerbahce as a free agent.

The future of Romelu Lukaku remains uncertain as well, and even if he returns, Thuram will be a very good option to rotate due to the vast number of games that must be played every season.

Marcus Thuram presents a similar profile to Lukaku and Dzeko, in that he is a physically imposing striker who will be able to serve as a target man. And this would allow Lautaro Martinez to work freely to finish off attacks.

This past season with Borussia Monchengladbach, Marcus Thuram scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 30 Bundesliga games. As a result, he has all the right signs to fit well into the system in place at the club right now. The 25-year-old is slowly entering his peak years as a footballer, and will likely spend them in black and blue. As a result, this will be one of the best free transfers of the summer if Thuram can get things going at his new club.

Marcus Thuram Inter Milan move: What next for Inter?

The Nerrazzuri will have a busy summer transfer window ahead. They have strong interest from Chelsea and Manchester United for their goalkeeper, Andre Onana. Moreover, there is also concrete interest from several clubs for Marcelo Brozovic. The Croatian remains committed to Inter for the time being, but the situation could still develop further.

They have ascertained the future of Stefan De Vrij by tying him down to a new contract. Moreover, they are also expected to sign Cesar Azpilicueta on a free transfer, with the Chelsea captain expected to terminate his contract one year early to sign with Inter until 2025.

Inter will also have to negotiate the future of Romelu Lukaku with the West London club, as he is keen to return to San Siro. Chelsea have no intention of letting him leave on another loan deal, and as a result, they will have to negotiate a permanent transfer. So far, Inter are not willing to pay the €40 million asking price, and the arrival of Marcus Thuram could further complicate things when it comes to Lukaku.
