Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur; City win Carabao Cup for the fourth consecutive season

Manchester City have won the EFL League Cup for the fourth consecutive time, beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Wembley Stadium with 8,000 fans in attendance for the finals of the cup.

Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero become the first players in history to win the League Cup six times. The Argentinian didn’t make an appearance, while the midfielder donned the armband since starting the game. Both are set to leave the club at the end of the season, and what a way to pen the end to their final chapter it is.

The first half was almost entirely played in Tottenham’s half, and Manchester City were excellent in ripping through Tottenham’s defences. However, they couldn’t quite find the back of the net despite a lot of chances.

Both teams went into halftime with the scoreline reading 0-0, and credit must be given to Ryan Mason for having made sure his team endured the attacking onslaught of Manchester City for the first half that was.

The second half spelt a different tale with Harry Kane dropping deeper than he had in the first half, and the London club grew into the match. However, despite a number of breaks, the Spurs couldn’t find their way deep into the City penalty area.

Both Spurs full-backs had a very difficult task on their hands, dealing with Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling. A free-kick conceded by Serge Aurier square on the left flank proved to be the beginning of the end for Spurs. Kevin De Bruyne curled the ball in beautifully for Aymeric Laporte to head it past Hugo Lloris.
