Mammootty & Mohanlal Together After 13 Years — And Patriot Is Unapologetically Made for Kerala

In an era where every big Malayalam film gets slapped with the “pan-India” label, Mammootty just said something refreshingly different — and the internet can’t stop talking about it.

At a press event in Kochi ahead of the film’s May 1, 2026 release, the legendary actor made his position crystal clear about Patriot, the most-awaited Malayalam spy thriller of the year. No pan-India ambitions. No chasing Hindi belt audiences. Just pure, unapologetic cinema made for the people of Kerala.

What Did Mammootty Actually Say?

During a press interaction in Kochi, Mammootty clarified, “This film is made for Malayalis,” further expressing that while the heart of the film lies in Kerala, they hope it finds an audience outside it.

The primary goal, he stated, was to cater to the people of Kerala, whose cinematic tastes have evolved significantly over the years.

And then came the bold prediction: “Patriot will be a game-changer. It will set a new standard, and hopefully, open the doors for more big-budget films in Malayalam cinema.”

That’s not just confidence — that’s a statement of intent for an entire industry.

Everything You Need to Know About Patriot

Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot features Mammootty as Dr. Daniel James, a character who goes on a mission to clear his name after being wrongfully framed for espionage. Mohanlal plays Colonel Rahim Naik, an armed forces official.

The two icons sharing the screen again is itself historic — the actors are reuniting after 13 years since their film Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty.

A Stellar Cast, A Bigger Purpose

Despite featuring a stellar cast including Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Revathi, and Nayanthara, Mammootty was quick to state that it is not a pan-India film.

And about those intense action sequences between him and Mohanlal that have fans buzzing? Mammootty had a thoughtful answer: “These fights are not included just for spectacle. There’s a deeper reason behind them, which will become clear once the audience sees the film.”

Shot over 130 days across varied international locations, Patriot is being hailed as one of the most expensive productions of the Malayalam film industry.
