Every film has a closing chapter at the box office, and Imtiaz Ali’s pre-partition romantic drama Main Vaapas Aaunga has just written its own. The film wrapped its theatrical journey at Rs 94 crore worldwide, closing out a run that was steady rather than spectacular.

Final Box Office Breakdown

Of the total collection, India contributed around Rs 73 crore gross (Rs 60.25 crore nett), while overseas markets added roughly Rs 22 crore, equivalent to USD 2.35 million. The film had a modest opening, but interestingly, its second and third weeks outperformed the first — a sign that positive word-of-mouth genuinely helped its business.

A Decent, Not-Quite-Hit Run

Starring Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari, the film earned positive reception that clearly helped sustain its momentum through the middle weeks. Trade voices suggest that with less competition at release, it may well have crossed into clean Hit territory. Instead, it settled as a commendable, if not blockbuster, performer — and attention now shifts to how it performs once it lands on OTT.

Director Imtiaz Ali is already moving on to his next project, reuniting with Sharvari and Vedang Raina.
