Maa Behen Trailer: Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri & a Dead Body in the Kitchen

With 28.6 million trailer views in under a week, Maa Behen has announced itself as the most-anticipated Netflix India original of 2026. And once you’ve seen the trailer, the numbers make complete sense — this is Madhuri Dixit at her most unhinged, charismatic best, and it’s been far too long since Hindi cinema let her be this gloriously chaotic.

What Is Maa Behen About?

Set in a conservative, close-knit neighbourhood, the film revolves around a bizarre “kaand” that turns a mundane, squabbling family’s life completely upside down. Rekha and her daughters are already controversial figures in their conservative neighbourhood — their lives are completely upended when they find a dead body right in their kitchen. Plunged into sudden crisis, the dysfunctional trio must work together to fabricate stories, cover up the crime, and prevent their highly inquisitive neighbours from finding out the truth.

She is constantly at loggerheads with her two polar-opposite daughters: Jaya (Triptii Dimri), the responsible, practical ghar ki sushil beti, and Sushma (Dharna Durga), the impulsive, teekhi mirchi. The mundane bickering over sleeveless blouses and daily mannerisms takes a horrific turn when Rekha’s intrusive, flirtatious neighbour, Gupta Ji (played by Ravi Kishan), ends up dead right inside her house.

What follows, the trailer promises, is a deliciously dark hide-the-body comedy.

Madhuri Like You’ve Never Seen Her

The biggest talking point online is Madhuri Dixit herself. The trailer introduces Madhuri in a surprisingly chaotic role: a widowed mother trying to manage her dysfunctional family, an overly curious neighbourhood, and suddenly, a dead body inside her home. Her character Rekha is flawed, impulsive, flirtatious and morally complicated — far from the idealised mother figures usually seen in commercial Hindi films.

Madhuri has spoken about the appeal of the role herself. “Rekha is not your typical Hindi cinema mother, and that’s exactly what made the character so exciting for me. As an actor, it’s incredibly rewarding to explore layered, unpredictable roles that challenge the audience’s expectations,” she said.

Her emotional backstory — losing her husband young and living a life shaped by solitude — adds surprising depth beneath the madness, balancing absurd humour with the awkward reality of family dysfunction.

The Cast & The Dharna Durga Debut

Dimri continues her upward trajectory on Netflix after Bulbbul and Qala, performances that established her as a recurring face in the platform’s original film slate. Ravi Kishan, with his cross-industry presence in Hindi and Bhojpuri cinema, adds disruptive energy to the ensemble.

The real wildcard, however, is Dharna Durga — the social media creator making her full cinematic debut as Sushma. Her chemistry with Triptii Dimri looks like a house on fire as they try to tame their mother who is on the loose. The bright colours, the kitschy sets, and that spicy Bhojpuri-styled dialogue delivery are a visual treat for anyone who loves their films with extra spice.

The trailer also features a clever nod to the classic Nirma jingle — Rekha, Jaya, and Sushma are back, but not with a washing powder. This time, they’re cleansing their sins. It’s the kind of cultural in-joke that makes Indian audiences feel seen.

The Darlings Comparison & One Fair Warning

From its first look, the film appears to operate in a space reminiscent of Darlings, the 2022 Netflix hit starring Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah, where domestic tension, crime and dark humour intersect without diluting their edge.

That said, the trailer has split opinion somewhat. Some viewers feel the trailer leans too heavily into loud performances and exaggerated quirkiness, with a section of social media users calling the humour “predictable” and accusing the film of trying too hard to appear eccentric. It’s a legitimate concern — but Suresh Triveni has earned the benefit of the doubt. “Each character brings a completely different energy to the story, making their dynamic messy, unpredictable, and deeply human,” the director said. Coming from the man who made Jalsa and Tumhari Sulu work both critically and commercially, that confidence doesn’t feel hollow.
